suggestions on awesome pedals

Hey dere...any of you guys have suggestions on any awesome pedals or pedal to use to giv me that slightly, just slighty distorted or overdriven sound.

I was thinking maybe a compressor pedal/clean boost? and maybe a DS-1 at very mild distortion to give me that sound. And also it gives me good clean sounds for chord plucking. Sorry for my vague description. Hope any guys can help on this.

if you need the sweet drive (nothing excessive) just to enhance your drive, the Tubescreamer is the standard.

thanks...will take that into consideration. niwaes for my clean tone...any particular pedal can say...clean it up? a compressor maybe? coz i dont quite like the normal turn-off-your-pedal clean tone that you get from the amp. any suggestions?

maybe i stated my question wrongly. i want a slighty overdriven/distorted sound AND a nice clean sound...but not the one u get frm guitar to amp..a fat clean sound.

I'm afraid most commercially available, cheaper compressors are made to give you that country picking tone, not so much for the thickening effect. Maybe if modded, they could do the job. But in my experience, it's best to have an optical compressor for this job. You could try the Barber Tone press, or the Aphex Punch Factory.

I haven't tried the Barber Tone press myself, but from what i've heard, it does the job very well. Not sure if this one's optical.

The Punch factory i've tried, and it's very clean and smooth, and can be set to give the thickening effect too. This one is an optical one. It's kind of expensive because it also includes a DI and a ground lift, mostly catered to bass players. Goose's sounded better to me though for the thickening effect.

One other option I just remembered. A lot of people have tried the RC booster set to unity gain, and it seems to give a similar effect too.

Sounds like a new amp to me. I mean if you dont like your amps clean tone. the next thing you could do is ti have a EQ pedal. But that still might not solve your clean tone preference issues.

hmmm.... i find goose's citrus to not thicken the tone too much... actually... I can't tell that it is thickening the tone UNLESS the compression is like... > 2oclock or something.

tvontheradio, my options for low low grit vibe? Subdecay Liquid Sunshine (TyMusic brings them in) or a Blackstone MOSFET Overdrive. The Blackstone sounds better to me lah, and it has 2 channels.

Yep I concur. That's the great thing about it ain't it? I'm still impressed by his compressor, it can do the clean thing so well, and the thickening too.

I haven't actually tried the dynacomp, but it is quite a legendary circuit, so it's definitely worth a try too.

I got my hands on an old dynacomp wayyy back. I can't recall but it was 1980 or something. No LED.

Nice for jazz.

Erm.

Colours HEAVILY. Tone gets creamy and fattened.

Compresses a LOT, total squish. Wouldn't use it anywhere near strumming.

tvontheradio - may i know wht guitar and amp ur using?

For your clean sound i tink you should take ur guitar and amp more into consideration rather than pedals

Sounds like the DOD280 Compressor. Used to have one, was great for chicken-picking :P I'm waiting to sell my White Finger before laying my hands on Goose's stuff!
