Suggestions for SOFT 2010

Hmm, i second recategorizing the guitars into electric, acoustic and classical. Makes searching so much easier! Also second the template for buying/selling of items. :D

i don't know if this already been discussed before
personally i don't like the ads after last post
it makes me have to scroll down to reach the Post Reply and paging link
and if my cursor accidentally falls on youtube ads, i have to move my cursor from it so that my mouse scroll can activate

please consider about this

That's the point. LOL. If the advertisements are placed in a small corner, no one would be able to see it. :)

LOL.

Too many underutilised forums eg. Music Around The World and Competitions. Drum reviews haven't been touched in almost a year.

Contests and Commercial Offers should be moved higher — you want more people to take part, no?

Leave Stats, Alexa and Events on the main page and not the forum pages. Cuts down on the number of database calls and most of it is under "what's going on" already

Allow quick replies without having to click the "quick reply" button on the bottom right of the post

I'd also like to see replies reactivated in the Buy/Sell section, but we all know how that will turn out...

RE guitars — maybe just Acoustic and Electric. I'm not sure if we have enough classical players here

Private lessons can be moved to Classifieds? Or Musicians Market

Move Drums under Guitar and Bass... I'm just going by the number of posts in the "gear" sections here, which are pretty revealing on the number of people actively discussing topics in the respective forums

Are tags being used properly?

And dare I bring it up again... premium members with no ads, bigger inbox and buy/sell posting access?

Np. Just trying to see what can be tightened up :) Also, redundant links to FB and Music Shop listing on the left/right bars, as well as one more link to shops on the top menubar.

I guess my biggest concern is with the Buy/Sell threads.

I frequent the Drums Buy/Sell, and every once in a while I put up items for sale. Regular re-posting of threads are very common, and does get a little frustrating because it brings my (and others') listings down and subsequently to the back pages.

Bringing back the BUMP-ing is not a solution; I certainly don't want SOFT's Buy/Sell forums to become like Hardwarezone's, where threads are BUMPedstart everyday, which makes things worse.

I suggest that a credit system be put in place. People are made to purchase credits before they can post up WTS (Want To Sell) threads. WTB threads would remain free. This would cut down on the congestion in the marketplace and also provide funds for James to run SOFT.

For example:

$1 - 1 credit
$4 - 5 credits
$10 - 15 credits

I think it's only right that if we want to use the forum to aid us in selling our items that we start giving a little back to James, who selflessly set up the forum and runs it without any complains.
