Strings

Have been using Ernie Ball Super Slinky for quite some time. Personally i like the tone and the feel of the strings but it rusts too easily(sweaty palms)

I made the effort to wipe down the strings before and after playing and keeping the guitar in the case with a few packets of silica gel but it still rust after 1-2weeks usually.

There's also the cost factor. 1 pack of strings cost me $7+, not sure if i am being ripped off or is that the market price?
I wan to ask if there are any cheaper alternatives and where to get them from?(preferably in the north) or any other ways to prevent strings from rusting faster?

Another question i wanna ask is when buying strings. do you usually buy in bulk and store them in your house? because i usually buy 2-3packs and use them up like after only 1-2months.

Ax Wax also available at TYMC.

Buying strings in bulk or a pack at a time is totally up to you. If you consider saving on transport, get a number of packs each time you head down to buy strings.

Eh issit? The last time i went there last month was 5.50 at ranking and so was at sweelee. :S not sure, havent been there in awhile.

why not try ernie ball's titanium coated slinkies? lasts for a good 3-4 months, from personal use. tone doesnt go stale and dull like the rest aft periods of time.

do u encounter this? how can i solve it?
i end up buying differnt gauges frm diferent packs..
because i prefer to use different sizes, not all string size which is on one packing

you can try curt mangan strings from guitar 77...i have sweaty palms too. my strings used to rust super fast until i changed to those. maybe to make it last longer you could use fastfret to your strings too. ;]

just a note on string lube's
if you are using coated strings, the lubes may not work so well.
I used fast fret on some coated strings as well and it seems like they do eat into the coats and kills them pretty quick.
string lubes work better on normal strings IMO.
:)

thx for the replies so far :D

yup i am using dr duck string lube.. might wanna try the titanium coated string, anyone know where can i get them other den swee lee?

D'Arrios strings work fine for me. Leave a coat of oil on them and they'll last for eternity. Even if I don't leave a coat of oil on them they'll last for at least a month

I've been an Ernie Ball .11 gauge user for years and I've got the same sweaty palm problem too. There's really not much you can do bout it. I've tried other strings but only Dean Markley Blue Steels come close. I bought myself 2 packs of GHS Boomers the other day, yet to install them, to see if it will do any better than the EB.

For me, I wipe the strings down with a cloth after playing; the underside of the strings as well. Then I apply Fast Fret, and leave it on. The next time I pick it up to play, I wipe the Fast Fret remains off with a cloth and the rust (if any) should come off. This doesn't totally help prevent rusting, but it does sort of "delay" the rusting; making the strings last longer.

One good thing is that Fast Fret lasts long and smells nice. But I just don't like the way of applying it.

Same. Don't like that. I use Kyser Klassics Dr.Stringfellow, spray on a cloth and wipe down. I bought this bottle like 5 years ago, still using it. Worth it? Oh man you bet. Don't know where you can get this anymore though. Swee Lee got some old stocks of Kysers but their guitar polish.

I use Curt Mangans for feel and tone. They last pretty well. Ernie's practically disintegrates in my hands. Elixirs are not for anyone as even though they look good even after 6 months, the sound does dull quite alot.

I believe there is a coated strings called Pyramid or something. Anyone tried that?
