Stompboxes or multieffects?

I do a little of both.

I use a M13 for modulation effects and all my dirt is on stomp boxes.

But seriously, Arent most effects digital in some way or another? most of them have PCB's and chips.

Multi effects 4 me

me30 - small, light , compact & has everything one couold ever need - once you learn how to get 100% from it

@Madwerewolfboy: Saw your video, loved the sound. I know the capabilities of the Pod, i own an XTL. Not as elaborate as the X3 or the new HD series (drooooool) but it gets the job done superbly. IMHO multi-efx is best if you're into recording or perform in places where no good amps are provided, as they provide an amp sim, and your main drive can still come from dirt pedals (planning to get a couple to complement my XTL, as i find the distortions tinny). As for the efx themselves, already topnotch.

same as junkiemanxl, using a suhr riot into a M13. gonna get more.
an excuse to spend a little more on dirtboxes!:D
but cant justify the cost to spend huge amounts on 'analog' modulations and delays.

hmmm i thought it was only able to process 2 instruments?? how'd u end up having 3??
Oh the bassist was using a separate peavey bass amp behind. it's obscured by the right floor monitor

@loldude333: thanks! actually, i prefer to get my main drive from the amp simulators themselves. haven't heard a drive pedal that could give me a better tone than some amp sims in my pod x3. the only thing lacking with these great tones is the feel, i feel.. haha hopefully the hd solves that!

Hey guys, is the Pod HD's really any good? I just sold off my PodXT Live, and am quite hesitant to step back into the Line 6 territory. I heard the AxeFX's pretty darn fantastic. But then again, it's emulated effects and tones, all the same or really one step ahead?

from what i've read, the axefx is pretty good, but the only downside is the price of it. i havent tried the podhd, but from what i gather online, it seems like it response closer to the tube amp now.

anyway, just curious. why did you sell your pod xt? what was lacking / did not meet your expectations?

In my opinion, if you like the M9/M13, go for the HD series. The effects in the M-series are in the HD series as well, and the HD series does quite a lot more

If you are going high gain on the Pods, it gets really fizzy and drive sounds unnatural. The rest of the amp sims are pretty good.

Depends on your needs actually.

Stompboxes have a very easy and straightforward layout. Just set it to the settings you need, adjust perhaps to the particular amplifier used, and you have everything in check. It may tend to get more expensive as you need and get more pedals.

Multi-effects are good for storing presets, one click and you can change from one setting to a totally different setting in a song. Plus better multi-effects can bypass the need for an amp as a whole with micing options, cabinet settings, preamp sections, etc. That's why multi-effects like the Line 6 POD HD300/400/500 or racks like Fractal Audio Axe-Fx can either sound very very good and 'tube-like' or sound like crap. The approach is slightyly different unlike just ideally changing settings on an amp, as the parameters affect the entire layout of your sound. While it may be more tedious, it can be very very rewarding.

I personally wouldn't mind both. A Fuzz Factory and maybe an M9 would be sufficient for me.

Actually this was what happened to my PodXT Live. After awhile, I missed the vibe and feel of no digital modulation and plugged straight into my amp. I believe everyone needs this refreshing feel once in awhile after all the digitization. =)
