Stage presentation?

Any tips on stage presentation? For example you're doing a gig at a cafe, and its really quiet; no one is responding or clapping.

Not that you should be asking for appreciation but some recognition would be good.

Problem is, if you're alone and your band mates don't talk to you, you can't really say anything useful other than introduce the song.

So I just play more music and shut my mouth after that.

Boring?

Ya, my band has that problem too. We're just too shy for some reason. But i think with more experience on stage, it'll slowly fade off i guess. But then you have to do somethnig about it too lah haha.. For that i don't really know how.. Watch some videos, it might help

well..if experience does not help either...try alcohol to loosen urself abit...but dont get too used to it. might start talking cock too on the mic n stuff. work the crowd...communicate with them. make them participate. don't over do it tho, or all of them will be like "get off the stage u try hard!". wouldnt want that so yea just try boosting ur confidence on stage. feel the song

you know those piano players at hotel lounges? they play very very soft so that customers can talk and have a good time. people seldom clap. but the thing is, this is what the place requires. soft music for filling up the air.

look at the place you are performing. what is the purpose of the place? is it for customers to chit-chat? is it a place for musicians to showcase?

if it is a place for musicians to showcase and they are not responding to your performance, that means you got to work harder.

i would say its in the song selections.

usually they judge you by the 1st song you play.
play something catchy in the 1st number.

after that if they still dont appreciate,
turn the volume up. force them to listen..

after that if they still dont appreciate,
appear like your really turely madly feeling the song
and start jumping around the stage but that depends on the
song your playing.

after which if they still dont appreciate,
hit the jamming studio and practice.

ah... so that's why rockstar wannabe youngsters bands all looks the same on the stage. Apparantly they all use this tactic

John Petrucci didn't really do much stage act. But he still move the crowd.

If the crowd don't appreciate it simply means the band not good enough la

if the wannabes use this tactic it will make them worst.
trust me bebeh.

If you can, you just caant.

bottam line is, your band has to be good, its not about going on and letting the guitarist shred for 5mins.. its about the music.

yea...totally agree...but for a great audience...you should go to those gigs at gashaus! the audience there are awesome man! they seriously know how to have fun

Personal opinion: I dun really like it when the lead singer goes on and on talking abt how they come up with this song and blah blah.

To get the crowd going, the music has to be REALLY good. Yea, groove and catchiness is key. Good example would be BARB at the power jam auditions 2005. The moment they took the stage and started playing, everyone in wala wala just grooved.

A good way to approach gigs would be to plan the entire show in advance. Like the setlist for the night, how u guys are gonna start off the show, how to transit from one song to the nxt one smoothly.

Allocate some time for the lead singer to chat with the audience, and i feel the best time is before a slow ballady song.

Think of how to introduce your bandmates, either via a song where everyone does a quick solo, or something else. Make it interesting, rather than during the song transitions where the lead goes like "this is ah gow" and ah gow waves sheepishly.

The entire set for ur band shld be done like a story, an introduction, a buildup to the climax, the hit single, the ending.

Something like that... dun just rehearse the songs, u gotta rehearse the show!

Interact with the crowd, even though you don't have a microphone doesn't mean you can't shout at them.. :P

Also, when you're playing, try not to look at your instrument too much. Try looking out at people and give them reactions when they look back at you. I played my first gig with my band not too long ago, and it seemed to work with the crowd, because after the first song i saw more people coming to the front.

But maybe the crowd was just high that night

learn from Scissor Sisters .....
