Small Expression Pedal

Hi guys, looking for a small expression pedal for my M9 that can also fit on a PT mini, if that's possible. If not, what is the next smallest one?

I have a t1m mini volume pedal. You'd be surprised how easy it is to use, it's been on my board for a couple of months now.

@J.custom: If you want, I can sell u my t1m vol pedal to use as an expression pedal. check first though, I dont know if the M9 can take a vol pedal to serve as an expression pedal. Eventide can, which is why I'm offering. PM me if ur keen.

Hmm, was hoping for something with a bigger footprint, the Morley Mini Volume pedal looks like an ideal choice, but not aware of any other brands offering expression pedals at that size.

The Morley Mini Volume would work, just need a special Y Cable to convert it into an expression pedal. Havent tried it personally but I've been researching, almost got one for this purpose but I sold my M13 in the end heh.

Hmm, do you have any sources for that (Y cable info)?

Cos I thought the M9 is designed to avoid all the troublesome issues with different exp pedals needing different TRS/stereo/Y cables. Like for my Ernie Ball VP Jr 25k (just a normal active volume pedal), I only need to connect the VP Jr's output to the M9's exp input using a regular patch cable. I don't need to connect the in/out to Y cable.

the special cable prolly could just be a normal stereo cable with 1 stereo plug at one end and 2 mono plug on the other.

An expression pedal inside is actually very simple, just one pot(10k, 25k etc). Signal goes in the expression pedal, parameter change from the the rocking of the pedal and out the signal goes from the pot, thru the cable and back to the effect pedal with the changes.

Usually expression cable uses stereo plug and cable, the idea is to have one of the wire as 'effect sent" into the expression pedal and the other wire(of the stereo cable) as effect return path.

If using mono cable(as our geetar cable), it can be done as well, but just that theres no ground wiring.

Yup I understand all of that perfectly, but what I'm saying is the M9 doesn't need any of that (at least with my EB VP Jr)

If only someone built a exp pedal the size of the Chi wah wah pedal, I'm sure that'll benefit quite a range of people. Then again some people also prefer a exp pedal with a bigger footprint.

yes, because Line6 exp pedal input uses absolute resistance value from the exp pedal's pot, that is why u only need to use a mono cable...

whereas other products, e.g. Zoom, exp pedal input uses relative resistance value from the exp pedal (so your exp pedal's out should be stereo also, Zoom FP01/FP02 has stereo outs), needing a stereo cable...Zoom FP01/FP02 exp pedal output is connected to all three leads of the pot..

in electronics, the pot is said to function as a divider relative to some reference voltage present at the FX's exp pedal input...this function is same as our gtr's volume knob...

Thanks taiku, that makes sense. After using the M9 I'm always very irritated by other exp capable pedals that require different cables, haha.

Size yes, but the Chi wah wah kinda spring-loaded thing is not very useful for general use as an expression pedal. Anyway it's just like those Morley spring-loaded wahs right, but upside down? Like with the "toe" facing you instead of the heel.

Now I'm thinking what if you mounted the t1m mini expression knob sideways, and stuck a flat surface along the side of the knob that you can more easily press up or down with your toe...? Rather than mounting it normally flat and then trying to turn the knob from side to side.

@carboxymoron: Bro you are a freaking genius!!!! I shall not buy the roland exp pedal I was intending to get from another softie and just do that. I will probably put velcro on the side of the t1m pedal and mount it on the PT mini, just next to the M9. Saves the space for my drives also.

And yes, i forgot it was spring loaded, cos I've always been using my trusty vox wah. My bad.

Lol sorry to whoever lost a sale because of that.

Yeah, I thought of it because my t1m mini buffer is velcroed on 4 sides. Have mounted it sideways, under, over, whatever on my old PT2. Can even let the knob extend a bit outside of the PT I guess.

Thought of a way to develop that and make it almost like a normal expression pedal.

Since the thing is mounted side ways already, turn the knob all the way down then stick a metal ruler or something similar onto it so it is in the heel down position. So essentially it is almost like a normal exp pedal. That made me lose my power nap thinking about it too. hehe

The t1m mini vol pedal's knob is kinda hard to turn with your toes. Apart from using the ice cream stick/ metal ruler method you can try getting a larger, flat knob that has an indentation to turn with your toes. My beano has this and even with shoes its not that hard cos theres that groove to give grip.

Haha, sorry man I don't know where to find it. You can try small bear electronics for other kinds of knobs that might help with the grip. Heres how mine looks like.

That is one big ass knob. Checking small bear electronics now.
