Slide guitar

Hmm.

Anyone plays slide guitar over here? Maybe we could share some tips on how to improve and expand upon in this (seemingly) dying art here in Singapore.

I myself have used glass, aluminium and chrome slides for blues, folk and rock.

Share please!!! :D

nope its not as i apply it at times just for effects .....without the slide style tuning tho !!
Check out bug eyes by dredge ...you will get the idea....

2. Johnny Winter
3. Bonnie Raitt

ALBUMS...

Hmm.

haha guys.. I have been playing slide guitar for about 4 years?

However, thanks for the recommendations but actually I was hoping for anyone to share their techniques, that is if there are sufficient number of softies who play slide.

Yet again, my biggest slide guitar influence is David Gilmour. Although I have been enamoured by country and bluegrass-style slide playing.

Hey crawdaddy - come on down to Terry's Tavern next Tuesday night, bring your guitar & we'll jam slide duets...how?

slide...damn..im so interested in learning tt..but..

heh..nah..cant even play guitar properly.

i find it damn cool la.

Hmm.

LOL that's kind of the whole point.. some people need not have to play guitar properly per se and yet would be able to play slide.

There's a very good reason why slide playing is largely done with the aid of alternate and open tunings.

Today went to Ikea and had half a mind to buy a cheap pine table and convert it into a "custom" pedal steel guitar.

But $$$ is going into a new microphone... so see how it goes :P

Hmm.

that's a guy playing a ceramic slide on a resonator guitar.

metal..for listening..

but playing wise..

i wanna learn blues..sumtyms..i juz pick up my electric guitar..and play it unplugged..play wadeva seems "bluesy" to me..

ok..tt bluesy part may be crap..but..yea..juz play wadeva blues licks i can remember.*shrugs*

The Allman Brothers band had some great tunes with slide, statesborogh blues, rasmblin man, etc etc. Those are some great tunes and all aspiring guitarists should listen to them, not for speed and shredding but for style and soul. Actually, Duane Allman played slide on Derek and the Dominoes Layla if I am not mistaken.

Also, listen to the slide on "T for Texas" from Lynyrd Skynryd's l(RIP) ive album.

Hmm.

listening to metal is alright, but for slide playing... there are so many genres which utilise the slide guitar.

But so far what I have been exposed to is rock, blues and folk/country.

If you're into the blues-kind of slide I'd suggest you tune an acoustic to open E (tuning from bass to treble: E G# E G B E if I'm not wrong) and use a brass slide.

It would surely get your mojo working.

ok..note taken..open E tuning..brass slide..

must learn how to apply the blues scales...haha..

up til now..its kinda..i juz whack blindly at the notes..juz following my gut feelings at wad notes sounds right..and trying to keep up with tt stupid sound in my head.

Hmm.

Ok, not that I wanna show off or anything, but about 2-3 years ago I wrote this song which I recorded with my now-defunct prog country band.

Titled 'Messin' with the blues'.. it was a very early and juvenile attempt at playing slide rhythm guitar (the guitar was an acoustic tuned to open E, with an aluminium slide) while my buddy played banjo.

you can listen to it at http://fgg.dmusic.com

but please understand that it's pretty lo-fi and I wasn't (and still isn't) the best slide guitar player I wish I could be.
