I dabbled with the slide for a period of time once. I prefer heavier metal slides...like steel or brass as compared to glass or thinner metals like copper...i like the slide sound to come off a little more noisy and heavy. Glass slides give a smoother, even tone. Plus i broke enough to make me give up on 'em. Duane Allman is definitely thee man on the slide guitar playing...I also love Peter Green on the original Fleetwood Mac material..there's some blazing hot slide works, not too fanciful but definitely heartfelt and screaming. Ry Cooder is also amazing with the slide technique. Anybody seen that guitarist at Crazy Elephant? He's pretty good on slide...using it at times. Tricky thing is to get it down with the same feel in standard tuning as compared to open tunings.
