Singtel Wins Rights To BPL 2010! Good or Bad?

When money making is involve. Govt always wins... Good example... The train providers... So long you all suckers... I'm watching my matches in kopitiam.

Well, guess what? I heard that Singtel is not gonna allow kopitiams or pubs to telecast live matches. They wanna MONOPOLIZE everything!

mio tv makes ur internet damn laggg.....mio sux man just go for internet streaming or live commentatory lol.

and torrents do depend on seeders.....

they take my BPL, nvm can watch at kopitiams if not at clubhouses.

but they take my F1 also!

wah super heart attack la!

anyways i heard that some of my friends who got mio because they subsribed to singtel's home line in which they threw in the set-top box free. they'll probably pay the football frenzy package's monthly fees only.

you know what's the best thing? since singtel jacked up their prices for home line, I've switched to Starhub's digital voice (which is free). all these before SingTel won the bid. wah, i think got conspiracy going on la.

when i heard the news, all i felt was anger. because these money-making morons don't give a damn about consumer welfare.

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

i'm probably boycotting singtel.

No point getting angry. Everyone knows SingTel is a government controlled entity with unfair advantages over others including MDA backing. But collectively, you can show these morons a thing or two in the next general election.

guitarsan, I think it is unfair to associate every event happened to the government. What we should look at is how to prevent them from charging us more because they need to bid higher to get the rights.

This is where we can come up with a solution.

Why are they doing this?Is singapore becoming poorer? It'll be the citizens who will be poor in no time

i dont care much for soccer, but i am a huge F1 fan, not like those who started from last years sg grand prix. im those who have been watching for freaking long, since 3 years old, and im damn pissed with this, cos i dont care about BPL, but do they have to take F1 too? and those who has a contract with starhub, are really screwed cos we dont want to buy a stupid MIO shitbox just for soccer and F1. i hope we can petition or something. Singtel shouldnt be allowed to just outbid starhub when people still have contracts under starhub.

lol..

if you were the singtel CEO you don't want to make money and bid for the tender meh? c'mon la who do you think is REALLY REALLY benefiting from all this? singtel? starhub?

why you think BPL is so well funded and soccer stars breaking record transfer fees every other season?

starhub already revealed in the news article that handling the BPL broadcast resulted them to run on thin margins and they even had to raise the prices for their sports package. at least be glad that singtel won the tender and they are bigger and have government backing, thus(fingers crossed) optimise pricing as compared to starhub.

as for those that just recontracted with starhub, sorry man but do take note that BPL broadcast tenders are renewed every 3 years and don't make the same mistake again..

people love to complain about the government but until you know how to dodge the shit, don't throw shit at the fan. meaning to say if you can do a better job, by all means kpkb all you want. if you can't, then find a way or stfu thanks

I heard somewhere that .. I heard ah... I heard ah..

Nah, Singtel got special rates for kopitiams/pubs/bar/clubs etc to telecast the matches.

those of you with mio TV (i've got it as well), you'd realize how shitty the quality is.

pauses halfway thru the movies that i paid for? thats not good no? Lagging halfway?

the part that got me worked up most was that when those singtel jokers came to install mio tv, they installed it using my freaking SCV cable (the 3 coloured ones) to connect to their system. They practically "uninstalled" my SCV when they installed their darn system. My power for SCV was also unplugged.

What kind of bullcrap service is that? I really wanted to call Singtel and give them a piece of my freaking mind.

So UEFA Champions League,Barclays Premier League,Formula 1 now effectively control by Singtel.

What's next?MotoGP?

no bpl :(
i had mio tv last year, but it sucked.
transmission was slower than a retarded person :(
singtel should seriously look into this problem first

pay online

i will just watch it online since network upgrade finished soon. if i jump to sintel what if starhub won it back in 2011? NEVER END~~

I will stick with Starhub. Watching football is just a leisure to me, not an obsession :)

i see that football watching is an unhealthy addiction for many s'poreans, with similar side effects to other addictions.

SingTel cuts cost of watching Barclays Premier League games by more than half

03:50 PM Oct 10, 2009

SingTel has unveiled its price plans for the Barclays Premier League, which it won the rights to for three years commencing August 2010.

The Barclays Premier League will cost $23 (excluding GST) per month and will include all 380 Premier League matches. This includes one high-definition set-top box. Customers who sign a one-year plan to watch these matches will enjoy the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League at no additional cost till May 2011.

Mr Allen Lew, SingTel's CEO Singapore, said: "For years, football lovers have been forced to take up a basic package before they are able to watch the Barclays Premier League matches on cable TV for an additional fee. We empathise with their lack of choice and unnecessary expenses all these years. We have promised football fans that they will not be charged more than what they have been paying their cable operator. And we are delivering on our promise - in fact, watching the Barclays Premier League matches will cost them almost 60 per cent less."

SingTel's pricing philosophy for mio TV is based on customers paying for programmes that they want to watch. The service gives customers access to video-on-demand programming, offering flexibility and choice.

"SingTel mio TV is going to be the new home for sports. We look forward to making our services available to all Singaporeans and football fans island-wide by the start of the new Barclays Premier League season next year," said Mr Lew.

Customers who enjoy other sports will have the option to subscribe to a wider range of sports programmes at $25 (excluding GST) on mio TV. Besides the Barclays Premier League, this will include other content which will be revealed once the composition of the additional channels is confirmed.

More pricing and promotional information as well as sign-up details will be announced shortly.
