hi..

is getting a multi or single better? i noe its kinnda hard to ans..but maybe base on you guys experience..can give some opinions?
i read from the net..it says depends on the type of music your playing..so...

does any of you have some good efx to recommend?(be it single or multi)

Cheeros~

I guess it both has it pros and cons

Multi-Fx unit is certainly value for money, more convinient and there are much more fx tht you can mess ard with. But the tone is of course uncomparable to single pedals.

It depends, if you are looking to create your own unique sound, then single pedals are the way to go. Most multi-fx units come with presets setting, though u can tweak, they're not very in depth.

I had a zoom 707II, for entry level multi-fx its a good deal, though its casing is plastic, can some decent tones with some tweaking.

Maybe can try combining amp modelers (POD,Vox tonelab,Korg ampworks) for the main gist of your distortion/drive with single pedals (Wah,delay etc).
for effects.

One thing with multi-fx units, it is best that it goes thru a clean amp with flat EQ. Even better a powered speaker, as the tones are digitally processed and going through certain amps will color their original sound.

ehmm...wat are amp modelers a? what do you mean by what are the main gist of distortion/drive?

sorry im new to all these stuffs hee

Amp modeler pretty much does wht it says, it models sought after tones from famous amps. For example for ur are looking for the high gain Mesa sounding distortion or an overdriven Marshall stack, an amp modeler pretty much has all these tones in a preset setting.

Eg. wld be the line6 POD unit

"what do you mean by what are the main gist of distortion/drive"

I was suggesting using an amp modeler as your main "pedal" since its pretty versatile in the tone department, you can usually find wht your're looking for in it.

Maybe you wld like to check out these new pedals frm line 6
http://www.line6.com/tonecore/

dunno if they're out in sg yet, but looks very interesting.

Yea of course, if you wan to go with single pedals...i'm not really into j-rock though, i assume u'll would want high gain, crunchy tones?

yeah sumthing like dat i guess :x

theres also tones dat sounds warm right? i dunno use wat word to describe it ?_?

Yea...warm tones are usually those with a alot of mids,i guess i can recommend a few pedals.

Boss DS1 (pretty much the standard for most distortion pedals)
Sansamp GT2 ( kinda like an amp modeler, can get variety of amp tones frm this one, expensive though)
Jekyll and Hyde Overdrive (2 pedals for the price of one, a good deal on this pedal, the overdrive channel alone is worth the money i paid)
Marshall Guv'nor plus ( with some tweaking, can get close to a warm marshall overdriven stack and more)
Marshall Jackhammer (probably has the most insane amount of distortion in any pedal, get this if you wanna replicate slipknot ) :)
Proco "You dirty Rat" (more of a fuzz sounding pedal, but it has a great distortion sound, very tight)

Guess the above is pretty much my experience and usage with distortion pedals. The best would be to demo the pedals to search wht your looking for. In terms of other fx, i recommend adding a delay pedal, it wld certainly add some depth to your playing.

cheers

hm..does the Jekyll and Hyde has distortion..the problem is..i've a od-3 and a mt-2...it seems abit waste of money buying these 2 e @.@
can any1 of these can those tone? and i dun really noe hw to adjust the knobs on the mt-2..like wat is for wat..even though i read the instruction tinggie :?

the jekyll and hyde seems nice e..

MT-2 is rather thin to me, the tone. More for the very cutting edge kind. Maybe nu metal or something. If you're going for J-rock, i recommend Procorat2. Though its a little more expensive than the Boss DS-1. But its definately better. Well to me i guess. Its up to your own preference. Maybe the warm you want, is different from our warm.. A good advice is to go down to guitar shops and try them out. Lol... Perhaps Sweelee or Davis. They have DS-1. And maybe wakemeupmusic or MrMisse's webpage to check out those procos. Good Luck.

Hmm.. Distortion pedals... Here's my take on what is gd...

You want great sounding clean/rock/metal tones in any amp u play to, u HAVE to get this Tech 21 product which is the SANSAMP TRI-AC.. Though it may be a bit pricey but its worth every cent. Its basically three pedals in one and if u wanna find out more abt the product go to the website and check...

If u r just concentrating on one crunch tone then u can consider Tech-21 SANSAMP GT-2! Very versatile piece of equipment and most importantly it sounds great! If u dont mind second hand, try scouting for one in the local classifeds and if the price is right then get it! U wont regret it!

Another one which I've heard gd things abt but only got to hear clips of it is the Tonebone Hot British! What got me away from buying this pedal is the real steep price... For this kind of money I rather get the Tri-AC or buy 2 second hand GT-2s.. Heh...

So in short just sell away the two pedals that u have and save abit more and get the ones that I recommend...

Proco "You dirty Rat" (more of a fuzz sounding pedal, but it has a great distortion sound, very tight)

agreed. try the mod by edwin. it will sound even tighter. well..to rid of the fuzz, i usually down the filter and play around with the distortion. an EQ pedal will do more tricks though...yupz...tried OD-2r, dan electro grilled cheese, MT-2, and DOD pedals...yeah... well, if you've got cash to spare, you can try getting the DOD dan donegan's machine..sth like tt...its a cool machine. yeah...and jekyll pedal's not tt bad... maybe our pedal guru Mr Misse can do an input here...

btw..anyone tried the wakeupmusic pedal?

I 2nd what Cavett said great recommendations. I use the Tonebone Classic and I highly recommend it and from waht I have heard the Hot British is pretty damn good as well.

hi..
Currently im using podxt and a behringer footswitch for my tones.
The newer PODXT live i think best suited for you but i dunno how much it will cost in SG.

i will use the following stomp boxes > Boss DS-1 > Overdrive, for basic distortion sound. An eq pedal at the end of the chain to add some kick as well. This set up if im not using the PODXT.

I hv not tried other pedals mention by Cavett..
Anyway wats the cost of this pedal?
U need to balance the cost as well..other factors u might consider is transportation (if ur geeting those modellers and footswitch)
are you gonna perform often in a gig for example and also may you might like to do pc recording.
Coz of the reason mention above i get the PODXT.

u can stick with ur pedals, go to jamming studio get an overdrive and an eq pedal and try to tweak ur way...at least u have an option if u wanna buy a totally new pedal, modeller or to just get the eq..

where did u get the podxt from? how much did it damage your pockets? =)

heard pretty good reviews, but i'm a lil' skeptical on them though...yeah... more of an analog guy...

IMO the PodXT dont really work to well in live gig situations that why I didnt get one however if u r using it for direct PC recording or just bedroom playing then its definately a kick ass equipment!

The price of Sansamp GT2 goes for $280 and the TRI-AC is ard $330 or so. Prefer these pedals better during live situations as they will sound gd in any amp that u play in. Esp with the diff amps that diff gig organisers use in their gigs. Well all these is just IMHO of course...

Whats impt is that it sounds gd to ur ears...

well distortion is just part of the tone..
as for me i`ve tried live and its ok.. no issue
u just need to adjust the cab simulations thats all..

Mulyadi u can get the Podxt in an open market (Second hand ) relatively cheap as ppl are letting it go due to the upcoming podxt live

Cavett what r ur experience in using the XT?
Too me its smooth and fine :)

I've tried an XT for recording before and it sounded great! Esp the rectifier settings! Only used it once for a jam and found it to be er..digital sounding? I have a very loud drummer so we need to crank volume and it didnt sounded too gd when it was cranked up with an amp. Maybe its the amp, maybe its the XT or maybe its just me.. Personally I still prefer analogue to digital so I guess I'm more bias towards distortion pedals.

However I'm using both analogue and digital in my board! GT2 for my crunch and GFX-8 for my efx. Nothing beats the ease of digital techonology of switchin patches for different songs/settings. Sounds very hypocritical I think.. :p
