Single Coil PU

LOL... wow that does make me sound undecided huh... hahaha... How'd you explain the emotional solos found in metal music then? Don't really have any words to describe it. But basically the idea is to find variation rather than just having the neck pu do all the work... Bahz... was at Swee Lee earlier today, but was in a rush so didn't ask price for YJM...

If you're talking purely the emotional solo - you're talking about the much neglected other 50% of the TONE FORMULA.

Its articulation, dynamics, choice of notes, vibrato, etc etc. The stuff that gives character.

For sonic variation, try this:

Lower your middle pup till its like about level with the pickguard. See if you like that tone - which only works with gain due to the massive level differences but its something Paul Gilbert & Vai enjoy.

whitestrat: the YJM's nice? i thought it's only made for YJM's style. how's the output btw? very very low?

Yeah... it's quite low... Surprising huh? I was equally SHOCKED when I first tried it, and was impressed. One of the nicest tones in the market.

hmm , i'am confused right now if i should get the malmsteen set (yjm/yjm/hs-3) or should i get the VV (DiMarzio Virtual Vintage) solo set .

Having tried both, if I wanted something nice to play with OD, very John Mayer style, I'd then get the YJM set. The Virtual vintage is nice, but i'd call it sterile compared to this one. The Solo is very midrangey... I like my single coils scooped... Like Fender CS69s...

But between all these sets? I swear by the CS69s...

there's the new Virtual Solo , maybe i should try them out!.
i really like the VV solo which dimarzio discounted judging from the tone from the guitarist howie simon.
the stock fender's have a really good tone to it too , but the hum is loud, really annoying and gives me headaches .
