Simple Songs that Speak Volumes

WONT GET FOOL AGAIN - THE WHO

HEARTS & BONES - PAUL SIMON

HEART OF THE MATTER - DON HENLEY

You know, I've been snooping around the forums in Singapore, and no one really has heard of this band Dispatch. They are THE next best thing to Jack Johnson I've heard (all 33 years of it).

Its just amusing no one ever heard of them, great songs with great vocal harmonies and instrumentation.

Look it up guys, I'm about to start a local fan club. :P

You should check out this trio called "Acoustic Trip" who plays every Saturdays at Balaclava. They are from the Philippines. Sing well, play well, and the most humble people I've ever met. The first time I caught them at Blue Bar Bistro, I almost died!

Depeche Mode's 'Somebody'

- Piano, a sampled heart beat and Martin L. Gore's vocals.

Plus the chicks dig it...

We pulled our bro james bro to the stage during our third set at Timbre last Saturday and forced him to sing "Somebody"!!! Yes, there were girls shouting.

you know there's this song by stone sour, the new album, called Zzxyz. Rd... its one of the more beautiful songs i've heard in recent years, seriously, u all should try...

Eh, that sounds like a full band tune? Issit?

you talking about mine? its actually piano work the first minute or so... then after tat then band tune... but Corey TAylor's vocals kick serious ass in this one...

Singer-songwriters are altogether their own genre imo. Especially when they're just stripped down to their voice and their own accompanying instrument.

I'm a huge, huge fan of Ani Difranco. Seriously, give her a listen. Kickass lyrics, awesome riffs. There're also other female artistes like Aimee Mann, Rachael Yamagata, Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple etc.

Those words are magic. Esp at that time, in his context.

I think one of the tests of a song is the ability to strip it down to bare bones, and see how it stands. Thats what seperates a GREAT song from a good song.

don't mind me asking, but what have you been listening all this while?

Actually, for me, my question is what your yardstick of good music is all this while...?

Hmm.

Wah... scally all the ibanez-toting shredders start converting to acoustic.. then spoil my market.

but I have my MANDOLIN!!!

seriously, welcome to the club, ShredCow.

Nothing beats one person with their acoustic, and maybe a tambourine or harmonica playing along.
