Nothing quite like playing the real thing but ... we always take the first step towards purchasing a piece of gear when we hear what we like no?

Been putting together a compilation of me stuff I've demo-ed thru the years...

Right now, there is..

  • 1) Boss CE-2
    2) Boss AC-2
    3) Teese RMC 2
    4) Subdecay Flying Tomato 2.0
    5) MXR Blue Box
    6) Zvex Fuzz Factory
    7) Danelectro Black Coffee
    8 ) BYOC Phaser
    9) Barney (Murder Death Kill) - Used an MXR Blue box in the intro and had my BYOC Phaser on all the way.
    10) Dimarzio X2N Showcase
    11) CE-2 & Tonefactor Analogue Filter
    12) Roland Micocube Line-In Recording demo
    13) Boss METALZONE demo
    14) Boss DS1 (MIJ, Silver Screw, Battery Check LED)
    15) Danelectro PB&J Delay (Short delays)

I will be doing more in the future, prob update this page...

So far I can do...

a) Goosonique Citrus
b) Goosonique Boosty

d) Ibanez Soundtank Echomachine
e) Tonefactor Analog Filter

I have somemore clips in store.... I think there's clips of the dimarzio X2N & Breed neck in bridge position. Uh. HAS Sound clips. Uh. TRI AC I think. Uh. Oh well...

Another time.

:D

NIce demos. Especially on the rmc 2. 8) But I think that kind of vocal quality can be dialed in my byoc wah. Haven't tried mine with humbuckers though. To my ears, the guy who demos it at youtube has about the same sound that you used on the clip.

Do you want back your Skreddy and Blackstone clips to add to the sondclick page?

I've still got them!

Nice contributions Daniel. Where's the Guyatone MM?

I'm looking forward to the samples of Goose's Citrus and Boosty.

The Metal Monster has been sold off to a Mr Kank_39... hehehe...

I'm still figuring out the best way to demo Goose's stuff... hmmm...

imho, you playing held more substance than the sound of the pedals. You know how to bring out the side of the pedal that you want your listeners to hear it. That, to me, is such you can basically make anything sound good.

Heh, only thing i didnt really understand, is the pickup demo. With the gain, wont it cover up bit of how the pickup might have sound compared to a clean signal and straight to the recorder without any preamp or anything in between?

If I might make a suggestion.
Since the main objective is to demo the respective pedals, how about doing something simple? Also taking into account what Pathe mentioned about you having the ability to make whatever pedal sound good.

Maybe just a simple riff, and switching on the pedal halfway through. I feel that that's the best way to demo any pedal.

You don't know how much I appreciate builders who do up demo clips of their fuzz pedals by first recording clean first and then activating the fuzz. Simple thing really, but somehow not many bother to do as such.

I understand dude...

Problem is, or was, that I don't have access to the pups anymore. :(

When I did the HAS Sound Viper, I recorded a clip, straight to recorder (computer) with just a cheap speaker sim. That really showed the dynamics & character of the pup.

Eh but with X2N, who plays it clean one!? Okay, kidding ah... dun flame me!!! :P

Wahaha... I should do that! :D

Wait till I get down to do my current array of dirt pedals.... Gotta dig out the old stuff first and when inspiration strikes to do up something / compose, then... aiyah, I'll just post that too...

MIJ DS-1 DEMO IS UP. (Did it in a song way coz... well.. erm... lazy to do it the right-er way... really!)

This DS-1 is one of the 1st made... has the battery check LED and is Silver Screw... Having tried a boatload of modded DS1s and the stock crap known as the MiT DS1 ( ), this was the one I settled on.

Recorded DS-1 to Palmer DI (speaker sim) to laptop - no silly "I used DS1 straight to pc and got fab tone!" crap.

MIJ DS1 DEMO HERE

While it sounds really nice... when you play at higher volumes, its just... lets say, disappointing. It just thins out. Bedroom levels its wonderful lah.. no wonder Satriani has his MIJ units modded...

believe in the hype! these silver screwed babies are one of a kind.

your demo song was pretty unique. very robot-ish sounding in a way.

haha, I do sense some sort of sarcasm in your post there  . no pointing of fingers now.

haha on a serious note, I'd rather clone that pedal and mod it rather than modding the real deal ( easier said than done though ). these DS-1s are harder to find than chickens teeth 8) .

I point only because the lies have to stop somewhere. Newbies get busted, get cheated, get fooled into thinking its all fingers that can make a direct in pedal's grainy tone turn into heavenly goodness.

But I realised I've shot myself in the foot because, the purpertrator would just say, he used an amp/speaker simulation, so in FACT, he was going ds-1 direct.

Cheap thrill I say both ways.

Its difficult.. getting that old chip... getting the correct parts if you wish to stay as true as possible...

But the old DS-1s are noisier than the new ones, when you up the gain. And they ALL have the issue of sounding pathetically thin when used in a gigging situation - gotta turn up tone to cut thru and you loose too much bass. Reason why Satch has his MIJs modded while Vai turned to a Keeley modded one for a season.

i notice the quote function is gone :(
Yea all the hype, mij ds 1s are so hard to find, but that doesnt mean the price should be so high.. i saw quite a while ago somebody selling mij ds1s for $190-200.

if mij ds1 is hard to find, mij ds2 should be even rarer and more expensive.
well, i got my MIJ ds2 for half the asking price of a mij ds1.. haha i knew very well nobody's interested in a ds2, so i waited for the buyer to slowly drop his price till its right.. Speaking of my ds2, it does give a sound quite similar to the above clip, in turbo mode, slightly warmer though i think

first off.. DOH!

alright. with regards to the DS-1 & DS-2 ( Japan ), I would say both are on par with each other. DS-1 is more for boosting while the DS-2 is more like a stand alone distortion source.

DS-2 Japan. totally underated and hard to find. I agree with Shredcow here. hype = price!

6 versions of the DS-1 to date. 3 MIJs and 3 MITs. only the silver screw with the momentary LED was distinct from the rest. tested all 3 versions of the MIJ and the early version of the MIT. the silver screw has the least harshness among all of them.
