Warmoth Pro neck (wenge neck, ebony fretboard, SS 6105 frets)
USACG honduras mahogany body, 2 piece, routed for H-S-H
Hipshot fixed bridge with Graphtech saddles
Graphtech nut

Originally came with Wilkinson E-Z Lok tuners, a Bartolini humbucker and 1 1-meg volume control.

The guitar was extremely resonant and it was acoustically scary loud.

It had 1 humbucker.

So I bought this baby off the SOFTie.

Took it home, played with it some more, tweaked what I could, and tried to make her my own. This is the end result:

basically, the changes were:

Wilkinson E-Z loks (really crappy stuff in terms of application) changed to Gotoh Magnum locking tuners... interesting idea, not too sure how it will work out but let's see. Spray painted some parts black, because I can.

Bartolini humbucker changed to a Dimarzio Tonezone (which was red then painted black, and then the previous owner tried to brasso off the paint, but not all came off, so I got it cheap and I think it looks cool in a messed up way)

Junked the 1-meg vol for a nice RS Guitarworks 500k pot, toggle switch to engage a treble bleed circuit and a kill switch because I couldn't think of anything else to cover up that last hole. (yes, it there were 2 empty holes)

Goose helped with the wiring work while Malcolm did the setup stuff.

Here's a pic of Goose's wiring:

Amazingly neat and tidy. Note that the Tonezone was soldered in my ME, so that part of it looks like crap.

Malcolm did a bit of copper shielding (because I can) and he painted the cavities with shielding paint (cavities were bare at first). He did a very neat and meticulous job. You can see there are some gouges in shielding paint at the bridge humbucker area - blame it on me, trying to remove a pickguard with strings still on... the pup height adjustment screws dug a trench. Yes, that's a nice, thick, well-done layer(s) of shelding paint.

Malcolm also set the beast up. Added a shim to the nut because it was too low, don't know if you guys can see it here:

There was fret buzz and fret outs from frets 15 - 18 (or something) and Malcolm ironed it out. Removing only the least materials from the frets in order to preserve fret life, heck, the frets he worked on still looked like brand new from factory.

Very nice guitar, I like the laid-back, understated vibe that it gives me. Maybe that's why I feel that the shiny knob is a bit out of place.

The neck is a stunner, and the humbucker looks like there's blood splatters on it, nice.

So how much did everything cost? With servicing included.

Maybe because a guitar with a single humbucker would allow the wielder to focus more on his music that fiddling around?

Sort of like a one use, one purpose, single-minded guitar. Pick it up and use it, no fuss, no decisions. To make do with what's there and make the best out of it.

I'm trying to find a MATTE white knob actually... probably should just re-use the old white strat knob that was originally on it. Thing is, the big knob makes it extremely easy to do vol swells. Big mah. More tone also.

I think... all in all, since the deal included a partial trade with a practice guitar of mine, methinks... 1.1k? Everything.

I'm still puzzled, why the ToneZone and not anything else?

Same here... I had the Tone Zone before but was un-impressed. Maybe because I was into something else back then...

This time round, the tone zone was just... IT! I tried about 2 buckers prior to the tone zone and well, the tone zone just nailed what I wanted. Its big sounding, its got a nice harmonic swirl to it, it has some sludgy-ness (which can be dialed out via height adjustments), its very dynamic and it can scream. It also reacts very nicely to vol adjustments - a major must-have for me. Plus, hey, it looks like it has blood splatters all over it.

Did you hear the clip?

Nope, the guitar came assembled when I purchased it. I was surprised it sounded so nice, esp the neck... wenge and ebony... odd huh?

My USACG's neck... the other custom I have... is quite... a bit better than the Warmoth. The Warmoth has tooling marks on it. Also, I like how USACG rolls their fretboard edges and the frets... the Warmoth didn't come like it, hurts if I'm not careful sliding around. Maybe it was spec-ed that way.

Happy NGD! I normally don't like your Palmer-recorded clips, but this one turned out quite nice sounding. Not sure if that's a testament to the tone of this particular guitar or if you changed whatever recording settings you're using...

nice...i had a chance to have a whirl at it while it was over at Goose's place. Love the simplicity and the killswitch made it really awesome for doing buckethead-esque stutters. The tonezone wasnt installed at that point yet though....but im liking the sound from the clips. heh.

The guitar looks really monstrous! Reminds me of the Gibson BFG, but a Fender Strat version. Very cool! Please drop a P90 in the neck position!

I'm just drooling over the warmoth neck...

me too drooling over the warmoth neck.
woooshhh gotta love that openhaus sound. too bad it takes so much more than just the pedal to achieve it.
