Dual-boot Wins machine

dual_boot.jpg

Well do keep us updated.

I'm quite keen on dual booting as well

I did a few tracks of guitar on Ableton Live 5 with a number of VSTs and it seems faster than before. Booting-up Live 5 is quick too, when previously it takes longer... Recording is definitely faster and clicking is more responsive. Previously there is a bit of lag in response when clicking anything. So far, i'm happy with the results through this "minor work..." I guess the real test is when i start layering delays/reverb/compressor/phaser for my dub stuff...

In the pic above you can see the Dual boot prompt...
Acer is my "everyday" partition, while DAW is my... DAW partition...

I'm in Create Digital Music!

It was really weird when i was approached by Peter Kirn (editor of CDM - thanks Peter!) asking if he can use my pics for an article. I give him a go ahead with reference links to my "work blog" and "myspace." And i was pleasantly surprised with his kind comments! Still can't believe there's a "feature" of my stuff along with ALL the good stuff there!

Homestudio v3.0

homestudio_McBk.jpg

Well, since we are in the topic of "show us your homestudio", here's my latest addition:

- MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz with 4GB ram
- 2nd hand stompboxes: (Boss MT2, SD1 & DS1, ProCo Rat II, Tech21 XXL, MXR Phase 90 - the Boss and Rat pedals to be sent to Robert Keeley for mods)
- Skullcandy Hphones (gift from my sis)
- Line6 ToneportGX
- PRS SE Paul Allender guitar
- Custom Flying-V (made from IKEA boxes)

I was testing/recording the pedals in Garageband. Currently the MacBook Pro will be used mainly for Graphic Design/Art work as it don't have a dedicated DAW (except for Garageband) for serious work. It might change once i have Logic Express 8!

OHH God!! I love your PRS!!
Hahahahhhha... :D
Yeah, its one of the nicest guitar i've owned so far!
There's a review of the guitar. You can check it out here: http://soft.com.sg/forum/guitar-reviews/49067-prs-se-paul-allender-guitar-review.html

oh wow skull candy! lucky!
I'm lucky my sister gave me that, she don't like it! ;)
Its a normal hphone actually, and the freq response is "decent".
Just that it looks "cutesyorangewithaskull".
Good that i have this now, my old iPod earphones (the one i used for recording most of the time!) is growing softer in one ear...
Maybe its time to look for a pair of "real" headphones now.

@Persastudio:
I see that you're using Ableton Live too! (What version?)
And i LOVE the PowerBook!
G4 machines are rocksolidstable don't you think?

=echoist

I'm using Live 5.
Quite old but works fine!
My powerbook is about 5 years old 1Ghz and 1GB ram, but this machine rocks.

Cheers :)

Hi guys!
This is my small room :)

*UPDATE : Designed a new ceiling light frame that goes around my existing ceiling trap!
Got a bunch of 3W LED lights to replace my old tungsten lights around the room. The room is brighter now running on half the electricity.
Planning on building some diffusers soon when I have time in between projects. Will post pics...

That's really cool! Minimalist setup! Is that a customized table? Does the keyboard slide? I'm thinking of designing my own as well as I can't seem to find one that suit my needs and most of the pro consoles (eg Omnirax etc) cost a bomb.

Hi Cheez.
Yes I wanted to keep it simple this time - my last desk had too much unnecessary stuff.
The table is actually a discontinued model from Vhive. What set it apart was the lever on the right - it allows you to variably adjust the height of the desk (up to bar counter level). Although I never use it that high, it was flexible enough to allow for a custom built stainless steel stand for the keyboard below which I had a friend make and a wooden top attached to rollers made by a carpenter. So yes it does slide :)

The side profile of my desk is similar to this:

pd_comptbl_QF05-15.jpg

The keyboard stand frame tightly outlines the legs on the inner side, has a center joining piece and is bolted firmly to the ground. The height of the stand frame is 18". Adding the wooden top is about 20" off the ground.

Under the desk I have a 7U rack tilted approx 25 degrees upwards which houses my current converters, interface and preamps. Expanding to 14U side by side in the near future. Will post more pics then.

Btw if I had the money (and space), I would rather get one of the Argoxy desks then anything from Omnirax...

Can anyone advise me and post in some pictures on home studios.
I want to make one in my room, but i dont know how its gonna look like.

Modular Workstation Extension

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy Quik Lok racks in Singapore. If not available, is there an alternative? Really appreciate your advice. I am just looking out for something like the Quik Lok modular racks to maximize my desktop space to squeeze everything onto one table; Mac, printers, speakers, rhythm machine, modem, router, power supplies, small 49key controller, small digital recorder, and possibly a mixer and some mics. Many many thanks in advance.

Didnt know there was such a thread as this. Really nice pics you guys have in here!

I keep moving house so often, so this is like my recent setup.

Slightly normal camera ...
