Hi I am currently using a ibanez rg 350. SO i am not sure whether i should change pickups or change a guitar. It is made in indoneisia. Much help needed. Thanks. If i change the pickups, do i need to change the wirings inside the guitar as well because i heard that the wiring isnt that good. thanks.

If you like the feel of the guitar, then I would consider changing the pickups. If you don't like the feel and playing the guitar is not really comfortable, then another guitar is a better option.

What is your budget? This will have a great effect on your decision too. It is a better idea not to invest too much money in a cheap guitar in the form of pickups and wiring. Better to buy a used guitar or a mid range guitar that you like the sound of and the comfort of playing.

Most importantly don't make a hasty decision. Try the guitar on some friends amps and you might find that it is OK.

Hope this helps.

Mark.

I am fine with this guitar. BUt i am not sure if there is other factors affecting the sound other than the pickups and the wiring. So i am considering whether to change the pickups or into a new guitar. If i were to change the pick up, i would put evo 2 at the bridge and air norton at the neck. so yea. Thanks.

it's your amp (assuming it is... no mention about you being happy with yours). even an entry-level unit plugged into a deserving amp will sound outstanding. swapping pickups but only to plug into a small practice amp- not objective.

Hmm, maybe you could describe your signal chain in further detail? all the way from your guitar to your amp. that way it's easier for us to give better suggestions instead of limiting to a change of guitar / swap of pickups.

despite being made in Indonesia, the RG350 is a very good guitar in terms of trem stability and playability. the wires are fine on their own but you might want to change the pots. however to me, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

a pickup swap would help but you have to try out different types of pickups in guitars with the same wood combination.

As the boys have remarked in the other posts, try playing the guitar through better amps and playing it clean. that will tell you how good the pickups are and whether the sound suits. The problem with changing pickups is that it is a high cost and you may not be happy with the results. You can always try bringing your guitar to a friend's house or a guitar shop to try out with other gear.

cheers.

Oh I see. Thanks guys. Hmm I am currently using a noob amp and boss mt-2 pedal. So u think i should change to a tube amp? And do you think it is advisable for me to get a vintage rg series or changing the pickups will do? thanks./

its not whether tube or not ... its just to change to a better amp.
There are good tube amps and bad tube amps ...
there are good solidstate amps and bad solidstate amps.
(good or bad is always subjective)
change to something that suits your purpose.
what is your purpose ?
If you cannot decide whether to change or cannot decide what to change to .. you probably don't need to change.

But I dun really like the sound now. The amp i will definitely change, however for the guitar, i am not sure to change the pickups or just change into a vintage rg series. thanks anyway

TS:

assuming those are the stock pups of an ibanez RG350, Those infinity pups are not too bad.
If it's "Tone" you are referring to, try a better entry level amp. Amps can really alter ones tone to a different monster.

If its problems you are referring to,The issues may vary like mentioned by the other softies.

So which is yours?

Amp i will definitely change. But the problem now is whether i should change the pickups or change my guitar into a vintage rg series. I cant decide now...

get an amp that can deliver a wide freq response, not some amp that cannot hear the bass properly, or lack the mids

although I would agree that an old RG550 would be a better choice (in terms of pickups, hardware, trems etc), don't make impulsive decisions. if you don't like a guitar, it has got to be the functionality or the feel itself that is bugging you.

end of the day you get what you pay for.
