Damn it..I can't believe it...

WHY THE HELL ARE TEENAGE GIRLS GOING GA-GA OVER SYLVESTER? THEY ARE TONE-DEAF

Bloody hell..I don't believe this...some people from my class (mix of guys and girls, including a friend who is a rival band member) wanted to accompany my 3-member band jamming today, and we played a "mini-gig" there for them... we played 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl', 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' and 'Sweet Child O' Mine'

and somebody asked me, who I think would be eliminated for this week's SG Idol, and I said 'Sylvester'. the minute I said that..the girls got angry and criticized my playing...saying I can't play guitar as well as him..

F*ck, I know I don't have the looks or what crap, and it's very obvious he is the weakest singer of the final five, except for his tone-deaf legion of screaming female fans converted from taiwanese popstars... but they didn't have to insult me in front of friends and my rival! HELLO I JUST SHREDDED THE WAH WAH SOLO IN FRONT OF THEM... I know I did make a few mistakes here and there as it was my first time showcasing the complete SCO'M solo to anyone other than my band...

last week it was christopher...and now its sylvester...bloody hell...

i'm afraid because of these people, the real local band scene will never prosper...

P.S. at least i saw leandra and olinda outside the paragon today and leandra waved and said hi to me and my pals...

i totally understand ur feelings dude. the girl competitors are better. sometimes i feel disgusted when people say this singer or that singer is cute/hansome/whateveer, but then, the reality is they couldnt sing. but too bad, this is life, people take a long time to change.

Ur classmate is ........... crap. Really! I dun judge guitarist by wad they say, but their skill. Imagine how tough it is to keep stepping on the pedal. Sometimes i dun understand, girls DO go for looks only. So.........superficial. U dun see most girls saying john myung is good or that herman li plays with fingers that move like.....the blender. I feel insulted for you. Go play CS or wad, vent it out.

Better Singers out there

Personally,

I think all the good singers have been voted out of Singapore Idol. Its nothing more than a popularity poll rather then a talent contest.

Anyway, there are also better singers out there, not the mention people who can REALLY PLAY INSTRUMENTS and not lip synch to some electronic thingy.

Just my 2 cents worth.

sylvester has zero stage presence ( no confidence : just look at e way his eyes dart when gurmit singh puts his arm around him ) . apparently sylvester has his own J-rock band somewhere in singapore ...

lets face it. people are shallow enuf to worship those flashy flashy people with bling bling and star glamour with ABSOLUTELY ZERO substance.

Pop Songs

There are 2 ways to look at it. As musicians, we are expected to know almost everything under the sun by the public. They do not understand that there are some who are rock players, jazz players, blues players, pop players, etc, etc.

Let's just take everything they say with a pinch of salt and live with the fact that they do not how to appreciate music. i.e. How many of us here can live with purely classical music? (Just an example).

i played with chris at a gig once... he can sing damn well man... now thats talent...him and his brother are really good. sylvester gets my vote for best singer though.... olinda is a butch , the 17yr old is too young and looks like a hobbit.

Yeah basically i watch Singapore Idol because Olinda is still in it. The only time i liked Sylvester was when he sang the aerosmith song.

I do feel Sylvester is one of the worse singer of the lot, Chris can sing better than him. As for Orlando, she can only sing with one style, not very flexible. Harfiq isn't a very good singer either, and has little identity. Leandra is good but her latest image doesn't seem to be her. I feel Daphne is the best, she can sing well, is unique and has a lot of charisma. But i'm just mentioning those there are still around.
It is sad, Jessie would be considered the most professional singer actually, her stage presence and voice control is best. Maia is very outspoken, but her stage presence can be really exaggerating. The others never caught my eyes at all.
Somehow, the word looks, image and trend do play a large part of the contest. It's not too much about singing quality anymore, and this 'evil' counterpart, which is the word 'Entertainment' has always been the opposition to musical standards. How many good bands or acts out there which are really good are not accepted by the public because of trend, looks and image??? Even Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani are unheard of by the common public and they would rather listen to Britney Spears...
I think as musicians, we should prepare for this crap, and we'll probably going to face it to the rest of our lives, so three words "Live with it!"

If you can't beat them, join them. Maybe you should consider finding some handsome band members. They don't need to have talents, just stand there and look cute can already. 8O
