The sure-fire way to deter these scammers would be:

"Hi, I am pleased with your arrangement. I only have one condition. I deal strictly Cash-On-Delivery. You can send your father or brother or ah gong or anyone to collect the item from my home, and my home ONLY . The item will not leave my hand until I am paid full in local currency cash for it, by whoever is collecting it. Will be waiting for you to make the arrangements and let me know ASAP. Thanks a lot."

Likely he will either abandon his plan or return a nasty mail. If he return a nasty mail (normally claiming he know the local underworld or secret service, whatever crap) to threaten you. Just muster up all the explicities (vulgar language) you know and curse him left right center.

Because the scammer uses a generic reply, maybe forget to edit the item on the mail.

Most of these scammers are very lazy, they recycle generic quotes, reply and questions.

Also the prepared scripts are crafted to play the mind of unknowing victims. You know everyday there are still people who use the internet for the first time. Some of these people don't go out often or are from a trusting community. Even veteran net users sometime fall prey to crafty schemes.
