seymour duncan screaming demon & lil' screamin demon 4 s

haha its tt way for all of us.. money.. n spending it.. too much is never enough =) hey but dont take my words as law okay. tts just my advice.. others have diff views..

along the way, i find that getting a good amp is always more rewarding than getting new pickups & keeping that diminutive practice amp...

For e x2n.. u need a neck to match e high output of the x2n.. or the x2n might overshadow the neck pup if u siwtch both of them on togehter.. or u may notice a large diff in volume when switching pups. I think this can also be solved by just adjusting the height of the pups from the strings..like i think shredcow has done before..it would be best to try to match pups with similar resistivy.. all e stats are on the dimarzo site maybe he can shed some light on this.. i fear i sound unclear.

You don't need a hi output neck pup to balance volume with the X2N. Yes, you can balance by adjusting pup height.. I've used a Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell (226mA output) with the X2N (510mA) and I can balance the volume. The issue you hsould be concerned about is that when you switch to a lower output pup, there is a drop is saturation... like you dropped your gain a notch or 2... however, volume will be the same. Its a matter of taste, some guitarists like have a hi output bridge pup but a lower output neck pup (some even take a single coil!).

Here... my review of it, with sound clip.

wow! din noe change pickup only so troublesome. lol

since the saturation will drop when a x2n is switch over to a low output pickup, how much difference must the output be if i want the saturation 2 remain the same? like for example, the x2n(510mA) and a Breed Neck(325mA) ? will the drop in gain be obvious when switching between pickups? thats a 185mA difference :?

Ah You will be having a middle single coil right?

The Breed neck can balance with the X2N rather nicely, perhaps a gain drop of like what, 1? This is because at the neck pup, the strings vibrate much harder, so the volume there is louder naturally...

If you use something like what I used, a HFH (226mA)... the difference was like > 270mA!!! Now the gain drop was like 2 notches down but volume was the same.

I wouldn't worry abt the Breed neck. :)

But if you are looking at clarity and power, consider the Dimarzio Super 2. > 400mA output  Its bascially the heavy metal version of the HFH. But I owuld recommend this if you have a single coil in the middle.

yes the single coil remains in the center. but y do you only recommend the super 2 only if a single coil is in the middle?

For versatility's sake. :)

The Super 2 is uber hi output like the X2N... though they are still relatively versatile, you wouldn't get a very convincing blues tone with them... and their cleans are not like stratty (think something like metallica cleans but more natural sounding)...

The Breed neck has great cleans and can do jazz/blues on its own... but if you wanna go heavy metal and have somethng that is able to stand up on par with the X2N, its the Super 2.

So yeah, for versatility... thats it...

u mean if i put in the super 2 , i use the middle pickup for blues/jazz ? i do like some heavy metal but do not want my guitar to be made solely for heavy metal. blues is preety cool too.

Btw, I've played a guitar with the X2N and Super 2 ... its like a metal machine. There's so much gain, you can't stop shredding and doing palm mutes... kind of ridiculous but the gain can be controlled via tone/vol controls.

Cleans are thick and typical heavy metal cleans, and pretty responsive, of course not as responsive as other lower output hums (hey, its for heavy metal!!!!) and the X2N has the wonderful tendency to overdrive bloody EVERYTHING the moment you strike the strings abit harder. Easy to rectify though... heh, lower your vol knob a notch.

I remember when I was in SAF MDC, playing jazz tunes, I plonked in an X2N becuase I had to, it was too cool... and realised, oh crap... jazz?! But it was pretty... interesting. Hehehe... very compressed and all, volume across the strings was pretty even and with tone rolled down plus DE7 warm echo... haha... it kind of passed.

I see. Like what I wrote, the X2N and Super 2 are really hi output stuff. There WILL be a compromise when you wanna go to one extreme.

how much versatility do you want? Be sure abt it ah...

Wah. You want a lot.

Oh well.

your guitar is basswood with a rosewood fretboard?

Dimarzio Breed neck and bridge.

You can listen to it on my website: http://music.download.com/Shredcows everything is Breeds except Freatk Out! (Tonezone/Tonezone) and X2N Showcase. My guitar is that Ibanez S520EX H-H config.

The Breeds have very good cleans and can handle blues, or jazz easily. Heavy metal too. But extreme grind distortion, no, go get EMGs. Very warm jazz? No, get Air Nortons or a hollowbody. It can't do to the extremes but everything else in between, no problem.

Check out "Reflections" for heavy metal. "My Life with You" for rock and some cleans.

Alder? Hmmmm....

I am not sure how it will interact with the Breeds.

Hahaha... but if you plonk Evolutions there you'll get the essense of Vai's tone.

lol nvm thx phreek & shredcow!

i used the pickup picker in dimarzio's site again . i selected alder and breed came out as a result. i think i would go wif the breed for neck and x2n for the bridge. thx :!: :D :D :D

btw does ani1 know the price of a breed ? and where to buy it

erm. Finrod, note the Breed comes in 2 distinct versions? Its Breed bridge or Breed neck. You mean an X2N in bridge and a Breed neck in neck right?

All Dimarzios @ Swee Lee or All Music. Call them up.

If you wanna get them cheaper and with different colours... you have to order overseas, but the wait will be longer. www.jemsite.com, refer to the banners on top, go to Eric's Guitar

hey finrod wait for sweelee's sale or get them second hand. a new one would probably cost between $120-$150? second hand u get them around $80-90
