I dropped by Goose's place today. was pleasantly surprised when the factory that produced so many seventheavens was just a table in a bedroom!
Finally had my LED repaired. apparently it had something to do with a particular batch of LEDs that came in when Goose made some of the earlier seventheavens. now its orange!
The highlight of my day came when Goose sat down and demoed to me exactly how the seventh is meant to be used. i've been one of those players who have thought the seventh was too harsh, especially on settings where the treble is beyond 12 o'clock. i've always kept to a few particular setting on the 7th because i've found it most usable with the amps i play with, in church, at home or at jamming studios. this doesnt mean i'm unhappy with the pedal, because i still get that huge, saturated sound when stacked with my od. usually, i never get to play on full tube amps with speakers bigger than 10'.
but on Goose's amp, i heard tones i've never heard before coming from this pedal. (but its designed like an amp). i was surprised such high treble sounds could sound SO GOOD. so tight, very full and clear. when compared to his modded boss metalzone, i finally differentiated for myself what pedals are and what full tube amplifiers sound like. the metalzone.. it was pretty FLAT in comparison to the 3dness of the 7th clarity. and sure it can chug, but its kind of tone would be one that would be lost in a band mix.
when Goose did a chugga chugga riff and looped it in his akai headrush, i turned the level on the headrush louder so i could hear it better. and when he did his leads over the loop, i could still hear each note clearly! note- the guitar's volume wasnt raised. it was softer than the loop, and yet i could hear all of it in the mix.
kudos to Goose who let me stay and got me exposed to newer stuff! despite daughters running around and not having his lunch yet. next time ask me to da bao for you alright?
my take on the seventh- though i may not have the resources (amps) to maximize the potential of all its possible tones, it can still churn out the few of my favourite tones at high gain and clarity with whatever amps i have due to tweakability. definitely a keeper, whether its for what it is now, or for the future when i invest in huger amps
