S-Series

You guys might want to take a look at Schecter guitars. Pretty good value even when compared to the likes of Ibanez.

Where can I look at some in Singapore? And what are their necks like?

Ok Im tihnking of getting the 160, and changing the pickups - Can someone help me list the differences of the SA160 and the S470QXM? So far I got that on the 160 there is no floating trem, which i prefer, and no quilted maple top, which i prefer...Sub, If i changed the pickups on the SA160, would it be a good Heavy Metal Lead guitar? Is it considered a fialy low end guitar? Im in the market for a decent lea work guitar, with a thin neck but thick body, which is why the mahog bodies of ibanez drew me to the S series..if I changed the pickups...: /

Yeah!!

Depending on the pickups you choose tho. I would recommend EMGs if you are talking about Metal or those single coil pickups that Malmsteen used (which in fact is a humbucker within those single coil). In this way, you sort of get a H-H-H setup even tho the outlook is a H-S-S.

The wood material is a Mahogany so shudn't be a problem as it'll sound good with those above mentioned pickups.

Im a littel confused - the SA160 i see is a H-H set up, but has a five way selector..would this complicate things if i bought 2 Humbuckers? And also, I know it sounds silly, but Im agian wondering if its a """"""bad"""""" low end guitar because of the price..I ahve 1000 dollars to spend, which includes buying nwe pickups, so with the 160 i could, but say if i spent 1k on a guitar i couldent get any new pickups : /

:)

I was referring to this SA160

Check it out.. Nice satin finishes..

I must say, Id much prefer a H-H set up. whch is whyi steered away from teh 260 in the first place...

I cant seem to find a 160 with a h-h set up :(. looks liek its discontinued its not on teh ibanez website.. what about a ..argh this sucks! I was a ibanez guitar with a h-h- set up, a mahog body and a traditional tremelo :(

Why not try out some of the old stock S series in Swee Lee Aljunied?

There's some (don't know the model name) with an inlay at the 12th fret that says Custom. Its NOT a custom S series... but its IS MIJ plus it comes with the older but tried-and-proven Lo Pro Edge trem.

IMO, the new S series are great stuff... the ZR trem is something good... However, should you break it or damage it somehow, you can only replace it with another ZR, nothing else. And thats really expensive. Those with Lo Pro Edge can be swapped out for almost any other licensed floyd, plus they are extremely stable. Like what I said, tried and proven.

No offence, but I highly doubt the HS-3s can cut it for metal, extremely low output.

a 5 way selector with H-H settings work perfectly... usually Ibanez wires it this way:

1: Neck humbucker in series
2: Neck humbucker in parallel
3: Both humbuckers in series
4: Inner coils of both humbuckers in series
5: Bridge humbucker in series

Oops! haha... thanks for pointing out the mistake sub... :)

And yeah, like what thor666 said, the ibanez H-H wiring is very versatile...

Yes, and they'll probably sound like shit if you don't run them through a good distortion source. Very good for leads, but lacks the power for rhythm work. Always remember Malmsteen ran those through Marshalls on FULL with a DOD250 to take it up to 11.

So - the only thin really bothering me about the S470QXM is the floating trem..if its a good metal lea guitar i can live with it...i wont be able to change the pickups right away though..thoughts?

The ZR trem is a good trem. There's nothing really frightening about floating trems... the most would be if you break a string, you are done for, but the tremsetter in the ZR trem should keep you relatively in tune.

if this is your initial encounter with a floating vibrato bridge, then the ZR unit would make a good start. it has an built-in tremsetter that keeps it in its neutral position so there's no going out of tune after a whammy dive/ when you snap a string/ when you tune down.

Cool...I think im going to go for the S-470..ill give it a spin - thanks for all your comments guys - I really appreciate it!
