S-Series

I went to swee lee today and am confused. the 470QXm has a quilted maple top and an extra pickup, and is 880, the S520 has no quilted maple, and is missing the single coil pickup, and its 1800...?

that's how it is. aparantly, the 520 is this year's acquisition where exchange rates were much diff from previous year's acquisitions.

So i cant afford the 520...470 still good? i like the idea of a mahog body giving thick sound like my les paul (obviously not as thinck but i hate tinny sound) and having a thin neck...and comments on 470?

:)

Probably the price differences is caused by the difference in wood material, as well as pickups & electronic parts.

I have yet to try it out, but several of my friends gave me quite excellent reviews of the Ibanez S series.

Might be heading down Swee Lee o'er the weekend to check it out.

if you wish for an Ibanez with a mahogany body, do keep these other models in mind, especially the SZ series, which sports a thicker/ rounder neck profile + set-neck construction, which would appeal to LP lovers:

if you don't wish for a floating vibrato bridge but something very close to the S-series philosophy, the SA series might be worth checking out:

The thing is, I want 2 Humbuckers, so the SA is out, and i mus say i dont really like the look of the SZ, and also I wouldent mind a trem-if the SA had a H/H or H/S/H set up, it would be perfect

EDIT-
was peaking around ibanez site, what about the SA320X?

there are many of us here who prioritize looks- it's perfectly fine to do so but don't let it be the primary reason we reject a certain guitar.

i was initially quite peeved with the SZ design in its entirety, it's a derivative of the S-series which is removed from the original philosophy. however, after trying it in person, the tone & playability offers an irresiatable difference- just have to have it.

the SA is available in a dual humbucking option: the SA120

What about the 320x?

the SA320X has a piezo pickup on board, i didn't mention it here because you did not specify such requirements. the piezo aside, the 320 is also a good investment, i definitely like the satin body finish which gives off a very warm midrange.

Sorry what is a piezo pickup?
Im just wondering where the 500 dollar difference comes in price - i want the thickest, les paul type sound possible, with a thinner neck...im eyeing the 320X...but wht is this pickup?cheers

Piezo

John Petty uses Piezo too..

It is a toggle switch that allows you to switch from electric clean to clean acoustic sound. Very versatile tool for guitarists.

I thought John Petty uses Acoustic Simulator until my friend enlightened me about his Piezo switch.

I'm tinking of one on my RG. But how much is the installation charges? Any rough gauge?

Then I might as well buy the S470! There's not much difference anyway, the S520 sports less extras.

if you are really into value-for-money, then between the 470 & the 520, you're better off with the former.

The 470 has more features than the 520 right? Not that I fancy the quilted maple or the middle single coil pickup, but paying $1k more for something less is rather ridiculous, no?

Unless the 520 sports better tone or playability or workmanship.

I was thinking the Same Sanxp....
Any word on the 320X's sound?

My guess it should sound the same as the SA120 in electric and not piezo mode, so I suggest you read sub's review on it.
