so there's much football talk here. anyone has any comments/ opinions on our S-League? other than it being dead, of course...

just saw them albirex japanese train at their ground.but there is nothing much of our local league just like our local music.

although i'm too keen on the league but i do watch the live macthes on Ch 5. last season, i was looking out for outstanding individuals rather than favouring any teams.

i don't support the idea of the s-league... or rather, i justify its lack of support. if you ask yourself: what makes you support a team?

i think in local context we can forget about discussing football heroes. the only thing that's left is geographical location, and i think singapore is too small for people to start drawing lines and support their own.. neighbourhood?

i think its in term of quality.we all know BPL is the best as it can get.but i do watch other leagues like SPL and some south-american magic.but to compare sg football its just shit.no quality at all.not to mention the commentator.no enthusiasm at all.

Lol, hmm.
Only local match I watched was the tiger cup final where Singapore won.

S-Leage is way too boring for me. .. Like Dime said, no quality.

i don't agree that BPL is the best... it's up there with la liga and serie a. but they are 3 different styles which make it impossible to pick one as 'the best'

but BPL is bloody commercialised, first the name change, then the proposal for the 39th game abroad. rubbish won't benefit the game at all

back to local context, it has already been mentioned that the standard is crap. but i think the league itself is also crap. we have wholesale foreign teams from japan china africa and what not. i don't see how this will raise the standard of the game. and im quite sure it will be to the detriment of local players

you want to make local players better? rather than bring the world into singapore, we should be sending singaporeans overseas. if not for NS we could possibly dream of youth development in terms of foreign based singaporeans.

the national team is way better in terms of entertainment, but honestly speaking even that is going down the drain. last i saw them live was the amateurish performance against australia. there was no saving grace. i rather watch 'miss singapore' than 'team singapore' anytime

to think that we bothered to travel to the National Stadium for inflated drinks/ snacks & the buttaches as mentioned. those days were great. still can't forget the Tong Hai own goals...

The one against australia was amateurish? We could have scored 3 against them but we were unlucky...

we had good chances, but lets say, if the score was 3-3, considering the overall balance of play, would we have deserved anything? i don't think so. when you don't get the result the only consolation is the performance. but i dont think it was up to par

i sat near this frustrated fella who summed it up: "singapore main terlalu banyak long ball" (singapore playing too many long balls). there was no control in midfield and got continuously hassled by australian pressing.

since then i did watch sg games but not live... but i don't think you can really judge a team just by watching them on tv, you see alot more going on when it's live

very true.

the singapore team lacks a midfielder who can hold the ball. one who can marshall play and direct passes accurately. to sum it up, we lack a playmaker.

that's why most of the time, the players would just pass the ball away, like they scared to 'hold' the ball. we need to import (or find a local, you homegrown talent purist) who has the capabilities above.

Right now, tat playmaker whom we can rely on is Mustafic Faharudin..we need more ppl like him...we lack those Malek Awab type of midfield as u can see in the video link tat I posted :)

I think we've improved alot after tat wake-up call defeat to Malaysia 6 years ago where we lost 4-0 at our home ground..
