ROLAND D50 need help.

Hi, I need help here.
I just got a Roland D50. But I have a problem here. Everything works fine except I keep getting electrical static " tiak tiak tiak" noise randome time.
I notice the previous owner terminated the internal power point and went directly to joint the wire for the sockets wire.
However I am still not sure if thats the reason that causes all the random static noise.
Does anyone has any recommendation on where or who does any fixing/servicing of keyboard synth in Singapore
Can anyone advice me.

Swee Lee is the place for repairing/servicing Roland products.

Are you using headphones or speakers? Do check the connections for those. Anywhere along the signal chain may cause abnormal noises, including problems with the speakers or headphones themselves.

It could be heard at normal playing volume.
On the headphones it could heard be very clearly.
But output to speakers its much softer. Unless the volume is push all the way up it could be heard very clearly again.

Its the speck of grainy dirt noises like electric droplets leaking from a tap... sometimes it will go crazy sometime it will just settle down sometime its 1 or 2 ticks its unpredictable - random.

Because its rather an old Vintage Synth considered.
and the main Servicing / repair for Asia Roland is at Malaysia KL.

Are there anyone able to check the power supply for noise, particularly on the analog supplies. Because If the problem is not in the computer, then the way to find it is to trace from the outputs back towards the computer with an oscilloscope. If it is still there at the output of the D/A converter, then the DAC needs to be checked. If it is before the DAC then it is in the computer.

Hence I am not sure if theres engineer can do such job especially in Singapore.

Paying Roland to fix it will cost you more that the synth is worth. I doubt Swee Lee will do anything.

I doubt the problem is happening in the digital domain (before the DAC). It sounds like an interference problem. Like digital signals cross coupling on to an analog signal.

There should be some foil sheilding inside a D50 around the cables from the key scanning....you might want to check that is in place and is connected to ground.

Otherwise I'd have a good look at the power supply. Sounds like someone has changed the power cable, maybe they have made some other changes there.
