used to play n watched gigs organized by some youth groups in the past...
they dun asked the bands that were playing to sell the tix...
but if the bands wana buy some tix from them, they cud gt it...
in fact the bands themselves gt a complimentary tix for each member...
so if they want additional tix, they could ask from these organisers...
the bulk of the tix were sold either as pre-sales or at the venue on actual day...
wats important i guess was the planning of the team that organized the gig....
they make sure that they at least gt close to breaking even even before the ticket sales....
n to gt the crowd...i guess the experienced bands were a pull factor...
n the new bands in turn cn take advantage of the experience playing with these guys...
tix were usually ard $10...
usually the bands dun gt paid except for maybe transport allowance n also free lunch...
i guess they gt quite a budget for it la...
but wat amazed me is hw the organizers gt clubs to sponsor the venue n additional perks...
some even assist to gv additional advertisement....
in this way i cn see that a lot can be saved...
i mean if these ppl cn gt places like hard rock n black room to sponsor venues while the team doing most of the work...
and bands get to play n not worrying about whther they cn sell the tix or not....
n mind u,the bands that played were a mix of experienced n new bands...
i cn still remember bands like ossuary, rudra, suicide solution, agung mountain, zero sequence,b-quartet,tri-ryche,MOR,native stalk,20 dischanger used to play in some of these gigs...
y cnt most organisers do that nowadays...
tru enuf, itz not easy organising an event...
but i guess lots of homework need to be done before starting to organise one...
so there's always a way of doing things....
but too bad...most of these ppl are no more with the youth groups or they don't organize gigs anymore...
maybe too many gigs nowadays...
so i guess let the newer generation of organisers run the show...
to the bands...
especially to new ones...
if u wana play,u gotta follow the rules set by the organisers...
if u think itz not to ur liking den dun play in these gigs...
to the organisers...
i noe u guys sure wana make profit coz this is business....
wats the point of doin business without thinking of getting a profit rite...
so gt the budget right,a good working team,n lookout for places with good perks....
add in a few known bands n u mite gt a crowd...
the band will be happy to perform in front of many ppl...
the ppl will be happy to see gd bands performing...
organisers happy coz gt some profit...
last but not least...
s'pore music scene is so small...
between the organisers n performers...
both must work hand in hand n not kill each other...
bands play a part in getting ur act really tight n put on a gd show...
so that organisers will take notice of u n will be their crowd puller the next time another one is organised....
so after a s'poren winning the asian idol...
hopefully there'll be some s'pore band that will make it really big internationally...
and i mean BIG....
: )
