i dun see a problem with ROS being a ROJAK gig/concert.....i mean...back at the expo gigs...it was like that also....ska/metal/rock/screamo/rock/latin/reggae...everything was mixed...n the receptions from the public were very very good....everyone enjoyed the show...just like this year`s ROS......cesspit....rudra...fatskunks...raindogs....ronin.....all rojak....
n yeah....who wouldn`t love the skunks?!?!?!?!?!?!
Yes, in the eye of the true blue ROS supporter, he would not mind at all. But we need to look at the ultimate goal here. Which is to grow the general audience, not just to maintain a fixed group of supporter.
I don't mean to be harsh, but maybe we should look back at past track records and we can do a judgement based on that. Apart from the band's own supporter, how many actual audience are there in the gigs?? This is the actual figure we are targetting to grow.
I mean put youself in the shoes of a audience (not related to any band, just a music fan) going to a gig.
Example: I love reggae and blues, but can't stand metal, punk or hardcore. I look at the bands lineup. There are less than 1/2 of which suit my category. So I think to myself, "Nah, I think I'll give it a miss, only 3 outta 10 bands playing my kind of music".
If the spread is less extreme, there could be 6-7 bands out of 10 which suit the guy, so he thinks: "Why not, at least more than half plays my type of music"
I think in terms of music choice, this senario is very human nature. That is something we can't help.
Remember, the ultimate goal is not only to grow a fan base for the bands themselves. It's to help the general public to embrace local music. THE BIG PICTURE.
