i dun see a problem with ROS being a ROJAK gig/concert.....i mean...back at the expo gigs...it was like that also....ska/metal/rock/screamo/rock/latin/reggae...everything was mixed...n the receptions from the public were very very good....everyone enjoyed the show...just like this year`s ROS......cesspit....rudra...fatskunks...raindogs....ronin.....all rojak....

lol...fatskinks.

thanks for the erm vote of support..
but instead of being called Rojak...can we call this One Love? everyone enjoys everything.
i would like to see the audience stay thruout the whole gig and not jst come for one band and leave. The last ROS i think some bands suffered due to the audience leaving after their preferred band performed.

i get your point Mikemann. Ya, if you have two extremely opposite genre put together, you spoil the whole show. Bands like Tiet, B-Quartet & Cesspit suffered that the last time. But we learn. This time round I think we'll be a bit more careful with programming.

Hi Heart Rock,

Aphelion is a progressive rock/metal band. But, they have been quiet for the last two years. I am not certain if they are still around.

hey ho let`s go!!!!!!!

HMM..OK....

1-Firebrands
2-WGB
3-Natural I
4-Comic Strip

Yes, in the eye of the true blue ROS supporter, he would not mind at all. But we need to look at the ultimate goal here. Which is to grow the general audience, not just to maintain a fixed group of supporter.

I don't mean to be harsh, but maybe we should look back at past track records and we can do a judgement based on that. Apart from the band's own supporter, how many actual audience are there in the gigs?? This is the actual figure we are targetting to grow.

I mean put youself in the shoes of a audience (not related to any band, just a music fan) going to a gig.

Example: I love reggae and blues, but can't stand metal, punk or hardcore. I look at the bands lineup. There are less than 1/2 of which suit my category. So I think to myself, "Nah, I think I'll give it a miss, only 3 outta 10 bands playing my kind of music".
If the spread is less extreme, there could be 6-7 bands out of 10 which suit the guy, so he thinks: "Why not, at least more than half plays my type of music"

I think in terms of music choice, this senario is very human nature. That is something we can't help.

Remember, the ultimate goal is not only to grow a fan base for the bands themselves. It's to help the general public to embrace local music. THE BIG PICTURE.

Re: hey...ho let`s go!!!!!

Yes & No Mikemann.

The last ROS proved that mix genre can work. And indeed if general public is our target, we should all the more go for a more general approach than a niche one. As I said, the programme part can be calibrated.

hey ho let`s go!!!!!!!

ok..true enuff...but how to promote our LOCAL SCENE...if u`ll only go to gigs if it caters to ur taste????

of coz we`re promoting all types of music here....it ain`t easy....

but nobody said it`s UN-DO-ABLE......

in fact it was done...just need to improvise n brush things up a lil bit....

i understand ur concerns mike...n yah...it`s nice of u to tell us the pros n cons....PEACE OUT

Heehee..... Just a pointer lah.... of course when there is a will, there is a way.

My suggestion is just there so that we can "work smart". Mr Heartrock already stated that the programes can be calibrated for the series of gigs, so yes, that's "working smart". Great!!

Most modern music, be it blues, reggae, progressive, the current stuff have rock (n roll) elements added. Just like jazz, if it really the pure genre (traditional), it won't be mainstream anymore, the actual fan base will be small. So as long as the audience accept rock music generally, still cover a very wide base.

Rock on guys!!! :supz: :supz: :supz:

hey ho let`s go!!!!!!!

hahahahahahha...yeah lor....anyways...u still renting out equipments???

u still have my no right???
