Hmm.
After playing my guitar just now I realised that I only use my palm for support when playing my SG due to the TOM bridge.
However, this would depend on my posture whilst playing (especially when standing up) because I sling my guitar pretty low.
And what's more, if I do a solo while moving about I'd depend on my arm to provide the support I need to allow good wrist movement.
I find that even when I play my telecaster I would anchor with the palm, not the pinkie.
I'd only anchor with my pinkie if I did fingerstyle on my acoustic guitar.
And ^^ DT we need to find time to jam man!!!
