Anything but J-lo la.

I can't believe only ONE person mentioned CLAPTON

His music has inspired so many people....

He was the original yardbirds guitarist and for those lacking in music history... the yardbirds was the original name for Led zeppelin....

He was one of the 1st to use guitar effects in a large way....chorus, wah wah...

Talk about jamming... u should hear how he and jack bruce jammed at their live concerts...with ginger baker they were known as the super-band.. "CREAM"... go listen to "crossroads" or "sunshine of your love".

jimi hendrix was so affected by CREAM's breakup that he interrupted a live performance on TV to play tribute to clapton ....

He was a guest guitarist at one the beatles songs.. if i am not wrong it is "while my guitar gently weep"

He was the guy that John Lennon wanted to ask to join the beatles if george
harrison left the band.

He was a pioneering artist to play reggae in his song " I shot the shief"... which many claim set the stage for bob marley

I dun believe any guitarist has played concerts wif so many big name artist from sheyl crow to bb king...

which comes to my next point that he has influenced so many genres... rock, electric blues, delta blues, pop...

And to top it all off... check out the last page of John mayer's latest album cover jacket that just came out not long ago... John mayer admitted alot of his materials was taken from clapton....

^i fully agree that clapton was revolutionary. i love his work with cream. too bad i only have the disraeli gears album. he was so good he was labelled god, at around 20 years old. too bad cream broke up.. but IMO hendrix was better, his first week in england and he already 'burned god', posing a threat to clapton's 'god status'.

what about Queen, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" are like used in sporting arenas all over the world. Is that considered revolutionary?

how about Zubir Said? We sing his song everyday in schools.

RoRK: I second your opinion on The Police...come to think of it, you're right. I haven't heard any other band sounding like them. They really are revolutionary...can't believe that the original guitarist Sting had before Andy Summers could only play 3 chords!

I also secondy suckasucks entry on Clapton. He didn't want to be credited for his solo on The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps, so people largely thought that Harrison was responsible for it. Clapton is up there, second only to Hendrix.

...and yes, of course Hendrix.

"He was the original yardbirds guitarist and for those lacking in music history... the yardbirds was the original name for Led zeppelin.... "

actually, that's The New Yardbirds. The Yardbirds were another band with clapton/page/beck etc. oops.

Brian May and Queen-Timeless, Intelligent, Talented composers- one of my favourites of all time

Eric Clapton- Legendary, ever evolving, pioneer

Jimi Hendrix- Had only a few years on the world stage (4-5?)before he died at the very very young age of 27, but managed to capture the mass audiences and break all the rules in guitar playing, amidst the racial segregation, the Vietnam war, the Peace demonstrations, the political assasinations- His work is still somewhat relevant and studied up till today by young and old, veterans, professionals, amatuers etc

Jim Morrison & The Doors- No bassist, employing some sort of bass organ for bass lines and bass work
Moody honest lyrical compositions with a slight touch of Jazz and classical music

Trent Reznor of NIN is quite a revolutionary musician...he composes every instrument...kinda like the composers of olden times..he's dead talented..

he also kinda gave birth to the breed of type of music called Industrial or sometimes called Industrial Metal.
