Regarding buying gears from ebay (USA)

yeah but i tried to bid but im ban cos my location is Singapore. So do i change to US?

just send a msg to the seller and let him know about including the shipping country of your choice. most sellers will do that for you. Esp if its a buy it now listing.

Tentatively,
U can try changing your primary shipping address.

log in to ebay.com (not .com.sg)

Change your primary shipping address to V post mailbox

I am still using my Singapore address but I do send a message to the seller after I place a bid. I inform him/her of my intention to use a forwarding service located in the lower 48 states. All replies come back positive and allow me to continue bidding.

Though I have yet to win anything due to lack of budget :(

I guess you could always change your location in preferences to the vPostUSA address, so they'll automatically ship it to vPost all the time and can then be forwarded to you. Saves you the trouble of contacting every seller to instruct them to ship it to vPost.

i have quite a bit of experience in dealing through ebay. some of the things mentioned are not totally correct.

Q. can you use your vpost address when bidding to ship to US only bids

most of the time the answer is NO.

accepting non-US bids is a separate issue from shipping outside the US.

this depends on whether the seller allows mail forwarding, or mailing to a PO box (which is what vpost is).

many sellers will not ship to a mail forwarding location. furthermore, many sellers will not ship to a mailing address which is different from the billing address.

even if you can change your ebay location to USA (im not even sure if that is possible), this only concernes your shipping/mailing address. your billing address will be determined when you make payment. i don't know of any form of payment other than paypal.

where paypal is concerned, firstly, you cannot change your location (across countries). if you have a singapore paypal account, changing your location to USA involves opening an entirely new account. the difficulty is in linking your bank a/c or debit/credit card to the paypal a/c. you need to do this in order to make payment.

linking your bank a/c or debit/credit card to paypal becomes a problem when you are in fact not in USA.

but even if you could get the mailing/billing address issue sorted, it still does not answer the very first question - whether the seller is willing to ship to a PO box or mail forwarding address. if not, and you win the bid, he will find out eventually and the deal may break down, and consequences may follow.

do not proceed with the bid if the seller may assume you are located within the US. make sure he is clear with this.

the reason why it is so complicated is obvious - with all the hoops you have to jump through, there are many vulnerabilities and many ways in which scammers can rip the seller off.

shinobi > thx for the information. seems like there's alot of problems with the transaction. I tried to change the shipping address to USA but there's somehow a problem with the telephone no. -_-""" so im stuck with singapore now.

btw, what is the item that you are bidding on?
some items (e.g Dimarzio) will not allow the brand to be shipped out into certain countries.

I have met with such an incident before. I sent a msg to the seller and they would usually advise you from there on. In my case, they lifted the shipping restriction and shipped the items to singapore.

junkiemanxl > im trying to bid for a mesa triple or dual recto. i guess mesa is allowed to ship =).. but the shipping is...... .. haha

yeah . it's a trem o verb 2 channels. im looking for a 3 channels recto. trying to get one for max 1.6k including shipping.

Actually, Brendon from BGW has leads for helping you get in used stuff. Why don't you drop him an email?

As with the guys from orange guitar.

Since we're on the topic on ebay, I was wondering how safe is it to get stuff off ebay? I'm planning to get something in the near future and want to protect myself from scams.

Ebay now has this protection scheme in which if u pay by Paypal and if the item doesn't reach u or its not the one u were expecting, Ebay will refund u the full amount (incld shipping) that u paid for.

Always buy from a reliable seller, preferably from those who have good feedback ratings :)

it's safe if you buy from good feedback seller which faizal_rocks said. But it's pretty hard to ask them to ship here. cos i gt 0 feedback. lol
