record label

yes and no.

yes its difficult if you don't put in effort.

no if you put in effort.

and Hydrofly is right.

yes. 'Concrete' record labels only want a pop outfit, or a vox with great vocalist and outstanding looks.

Indie labels want more bands with a nice voice and experimental, full of effects guitars.

I figured this out by going to baybeats and looking at bands myspace who are more 'established' than others. The ONLY rock n roll band I've ever seen its Ronin.

Well all i said its really my opinion. not trying to argue. ta!

work hard and the results are easy.
work easy and the results are hard.

heh, ironically, the one who does know a thing or 2 about label in local context, has the shortest reply while most of us, who doesnt, seem to "know a lot"

I was at the recent songwriting competition organised by LEE Guitar and Jonathan Lee Zong Sheng (李宗盛) was there. He was answering a question and I would like to share it with you guys here.

It was something along the line of "Just concentrate on music making, when you are good, people will come looking for you."

Another line from him "Being a musician is no different from a food hawker who also has a family to feed. Don't keep thinking you are any special or of higher aspiration."

true. Arctic Monkeys made it by waiting and rejecting alot of record labels. They made it big because of myspace.

I bet everyone knows their story.

Every labels work differently I guess.. I don't know about Singapore labels but in some country, they are supporting DIY and underground musicians.

Some labels are only willing to invest in good bands while some are willing to deal with an OK kind of bands. And some like I know, are going all the way in supporting true dark underground music even if they have to invest more.

mwahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....

the thread wont go anywhere, as long as people like me and some who have no ideas(but plenty assumption) bout labels talking as if we knew something, out of reading too much, with no actual insight into label, local context.

Yea I have no damn idea how labels work, but heck, I never trust people. Especially businessmen, I deal with a few everyday, their as slimy as lawyers, labels are run by businessmen.
