Guess so, anyway, I personally don't care about labels. I think that as a musician, you should care about what you're playing. Unless you want to be like Trent Reznor and DIY, which I feel is the way to go.

For chinese part, you may need to go through those pop school set up by producer here. Most likely you have to go for courses. Be active or kpo around school. You will see some of the way sporean artist being exported. Songwriter being paid. It will be a different ball game.

Local producer do not have the resources to do marketing and distribution for any artist. They have to depend on the labels.

So you need to be signed to a label, orelse you can't get anyway far.

I saw some indie, but without the knowledge of marketing and distribution. It is hard to do. You willl leave boxes of CDs in your house.
