Recommendation on Home recording gears

Been wondering what's the best way to record instruments (drums, guitars, bass, keybords, vocals)at home with softwares? Currently I am having a 8-channels mini mixer where I input all my vocals and instruments in then out to my creative soundcard.(recording using Cakewalk guitar pro2) Is this setup good enough?

1) Plug all instruments into a mixer like those small mixer like Tapco mix50...etc, then to my soundcard?
Or
2) buy one of those usb interface thingy like a Line6 Toneport Ux1 to function like an external soundcard to record into the computer?

Need your advice.

Since Line6 Toneport is relatively not expensive and City Music is having a sale somemore, I would suggest you to get one and gain some experience in using such an interface.

You might grow out of it later, wanting more inputs or better mic pre-amp ... but still, it is a good equipment to start with.

Are you able to

1. Record guitar
2. Record bass while listening to the recorded guitar
3. Record keyboard while listening to the recorded guitar/bass
4. Record vocal while listening to recorded keyboard/bass only
