Recommendation for LP Bridge PUP!

Hi Softies!

Was just wondering if you guys could chip in your opinions on a suitable pickup for a burny les paul. I'm looking to change the bridge pickup on mine and cant seem to find something i like based on the clips I've been hearing on the manufacturer's website. Getting desperate!

I'm looking for a tone suitable for playing classic and hard rock. (Kiss, Deep Purple, White Snake, Scorpion etc.) Would like the bridge pup to be hot enough yet not thin so as to retain the fat tone that a les paul normally brings through. Currently have tried the SD alnico II pro, but found it not hot enough and not responsive enough for pinch harmonics and squeals. The SD-JB4 sounds a bit too thin for me, but I'll probably need to try it out first to know.

Guitar: Burny Les Paul,
Effects: Zoom 2.1u (budget but thats all i can afford for now)
Amp: Peavey Express 112

Please do provide me with your opinions so I can research more about them! I dont mind Not-so-big brands such as Tesla. Open to trying.

Oh, and if someone already asked this question some time ago, (which i'm expecting a yes) please do send me the link! Looked back through the last few pages but didnt see anything suitable. May have missed :-S

Thanks in advance for all replies and reading this page! Look forward to your replies! :)

You could save up for a better amp and some decent effects~

If not check out GFS, budget and good sounding. If not sounds like a PAF Joe or Pearly Gates or maybe a SD or JB.

Believe it or not, try the DiMarzio Super Distortion. Let the zoom handle the type of drive you want.

Or better yet, if you can, get the Bareknuckle A5 Holydiver.

Hmmm..

Mmmm DiMarzio's Super distortion? heard quite a few clips of it on youtube. Yeah i think its not bad. probably will try out a guitar fitted with it soon or sth..

Anyw, yeah about GFS, what is the general opinion on them? not much samples to really listen to it.. and is anyone in support of the duncan '59s or sh-2? i'm just afraid the '59s wont be hot enough..

thanks for all replies :)

The old Super Distortions were the archtype of a a hot rodded pup back in the days...cant say the same for now though.

I'd recommend a Stan Heinsley Zen...Tried it in an Orville LP and the sound was killer! Full-bodied and rich sounding...and the balanced mids makes it easy to switch back and forth between lead and rhythm...

p-90s anyone? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think lotsa rock n rollers use em....

Hey eclizpe, hows the breed compared to the EVO? You think it'll sound good in neck? I got an EVO in my bridge and I want something with the same kinda high gain output but with a thicker sound.

i kinda wanna get a 59 based on the demo clip i heard on their website, but yea. ._. i rather hear it on a lp and see how rather than rely on the companies' clips.

Stock pups

Stock pups? NO IDEA. i bought the guitar off Blackwood. THey didnt have an idea what it was, and neither could i find out even after i took it out. Its funny though, the height of the bridge pup had to be raised like so close to the strings just to match the volume of the neck pup, which is like around the normal height.

Yeah same here about the '59. The demo clips on the SD website just dont sound really convincing...

Test guitars

Anyone knows anywhere that have les paul type guitar equipped with '59 pick ups for testing? Does anyone know if davis have?

If memory serves me correctly, the edwards LP uses 59s don't they? den again even with an LP guitar when put in ur own lp it might sound different

The 59 is nice. Nice articulate cleans and the extended top end really helps to clean up the neck position of my edwards lp. Sounds great driven too, the "woman" tone is easily attainable especially if a coil tap is added.

Cant say the same about the JB though, I dont like it at all in the bridge position :(

You can try it....Mark Morton of Lamb of God uses dual 59s' in his neck and bridge. Seems to work well for his sound.

I'm thinking of getting a stan heinsley Zen http://www.stanhinesleypickups.com/humbuckers.htm It sounds really great, nice articulate and full sounding that blooms with rich harmonics when used ith distortion. Tried it in an Orville Goldtop and I was really blown away.
