Recommend me pick-ups

Well, Sub... I'm 50% with you... I still think that certain pups sound best in certain situations.

You can't say you put a Vintage PAF in the bridge and use it for black metal... it just wouldn't be able to cut it in that genre's style...

i'm not contending the pickup's inherent characteristic which makes it more suitable for certain genre. what i'm putting forth is that, just because a certain pickup has more of a certain quality/ attribute, that doesn't mean the pickup which doesn't is worse off.

coincidentally, one of my Ibanez RG has a Dimarzio PAF in it, it's one of the lowest output pickup i own but it still cuts for black metal tone. same goes for my Alnico II Pro equipped Gibson SG (neck, depicted below), it delivers doom-laden tones just as well. this just goes to show:

*there's too much hype in the pickups' name/ reputation. it just needs to be heard to be believed.

*pickup is just another component of the tone equation, amp/ guitar/ etc contribute to tone just as well.

Anyone know if i can get any of those pick-ups mentioned with the pickup cover

There is no pickup cover for the X2N, it looks too cool to be covered up. ;) Not sure for the Duncan...

Ah
I sold off my X2N already Bro. :)

You will have to rob my friend. ;)

For humbuckers, I've tried PAF Pro, Evo bridge and neck, SD Alnico 2 pro on some cheap 100+ guitars. I love the Dimarzio so much I decided to get myself a PGM and JEM that officially comes with them (as a working adult of course).

I'm GASing for Evo 2, but I guess it doesn't matter anymore, in my honest opinion, my finger will create greater difference and I have so much I need learn.

The evo bridge is a bit too hot, a lot of harmonics to jump off the guitar. The neck is really quite warm and versatile, I can comp some wes montgomery with it.
Tonezone may be more suited for power chord style of playing.

If I were to build from a 100+ shred guitar body again, it will be evo neck, blue velvet rwrp, evo2.

Hope you enjoy your quest for the ulimate PU.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd chip in a different point of view .... :D

Get a ballsy/hi-gain sound via use of a Low/Medium output PU with your Amplifier generating the required pre-amp gain.

You gain Versatility; still having a heavy sound, yet being able to switch over to a (better) clean and low-gain sound when you want.

What's tricky about Hi-gain pickups (I've used Super Distortions, Super 3s, Evolutions, Hot Rails in my search for a good distortion tone before) is that for some pickups, you compromise your low-gain/clean tone.

That said ........ just use ur ears to know what works for you.

I had them istalled a couple of dyas ago and they sound great!!!

The Alnico II Pro sounds really fat and has a really round tone, and the evo is crunchy and hi output. !!
