Ive been wanting to get something similar to Mark Tremonti's tone or something similar to all the Alter Bridge stuff. Im using a craftsman les paul from city music. ive been thinking of getting Duncan Alnico Pro II for the nexk and Dimarzio distortion for the bridge, do u guys thik mixing brands is a good idea or not? im very open to suggestions.

Sure why not. Also keep in mind he is using a PRS guitar. The body is different from the rest of the guitars out there. So the tone will vary abit, even if you use the exact same pickups. But sure, by all means, experiment with pickups and brands to get your dream sound :)

PRS Tremonti pickups? they'll set u back at least $300+. Or you could get the Gibson 500T and 498R, supposedly its the pickup Tremonti liked but PRS overwounds it. Or you could do with ceramic pickups generally, my guess is Tremonti uses ceramics for that distinct bright chunky and hot tone. that of course is my humble opinion. :)

what about your opinions on the mixing dimarzio and duncan?

i was thinking that i want most of my clean sounds to go through the Alnico while most of my distorted/overdrived sounds go through the dimarzio.

Mixing is fine. Just make sure you aren't getting pups that are world apart...
like a low ouput pup meant for blues... paired with a Dimarzio X2N. That might not be so good... volume wise.

yeah, go ahead and mix if you're pretty sure what sound you want. just don't get confused when you wire the two pups as their wiring color codes are different.

i heard the tremonti pickups are Gibson 500Ts. actually i heard that they don't do anything to the pickups, they just get them from Gibson and throw them on the Tremonti and call them Tremonti bridge pickups.

Schecters with maple caps are pretty similar to PRSes so if you had one with a 500T in the bridge you'd probably be about half way to getting his sound.

Can anybody also comment on the alnico pro II and the duncan blues hmbucker(bluesbucker i believe). i only thought about the alnico becuase slash uses it but maybe im loking for a bluesy clean sound. If anybody has any suggestions on any good bridge pick-ups that make a good distorted sound please say it.

can't be, i measured the resistance for the 500T and the Tremonti pickups before, both were different, i think the Tremonti pickups were wired hotter than the 500T. Tremonti used to use the Gibson 500T until PRS offered to build him a signature, Tremonti pups are jus overwound 500T. You can get the pickups from any Gibson Les Paul Classic, stock on them.

Why not go Dimarzio X2N in bridge and neck?

You got a Les Paul guitar, which I presume its Mahogany... which means a slightly darker, FATTER, mid-dier tone... which would translate on the X2N into a CRUSHING tone. Not like sterile hi gain EMGs but you will retain the guitar's character... plus you get a nice clean tone, and really nice split tones.

I just looked at something, the duncan distortion. Mark tremonti uses a mesa for his highs and an uber for his lows. im trying to sfind a similar approach because my amp settings are

bass-10
mids-5
treble-7

sometimes when im distorted i cant hear the treble because of hte bass. im hoping pick-ups can fix this so alnicos and duncan distortion is on my priority list. if anybody knows how to fix my current problem with the drowning trebles please reply

Lower your bass.

You got to adjust your amp to suit your guitar's tone. You can't expect a guitar to NOT sound bassy when your bass is so high!

And how come Dimarzios are not on your list? hmmm...

The X2N has a very cutting tone... good treble.

yea i need to look for those x2ns but im not sure i wanna get two of them.

Hmmm... Okay, 1 X2N in the bridge... then you will want a nice neck pup to compliment that, something that has some power to it.

What kind of neck tone are you looking for? Bright, single coil sounding, fat, middy... Give some examples.
