:) REB BEACH: KIRK HAMMETT Is One Of The Worst Guitar Players I've Ever Heard

This whole issue is about his professionalism, it doesnt matter how great he is on the guitar, it doesnt matter who he diss, Kirk Hammet or Lil Wayne (go youtube him), its still wrong.

was metallica professional to throw darts at kip winger's poster? why am i seeing double standards here?

We are not talking about the queen's musicians or the orchestra, these are rockstars with rockstar's mentality heehe

when you are a rock star you can do pretty much :) no such thing as professionalism :) thats why people like them and watch them...lol I have seen people shit on stage, have sex on stage, vomit, cus, destroy equipment, burn.... anything they want to do lol they do the most un expected things thats why people love watching them :)

The thing about Kirk Hammett is that he plays a bunch of good solos.

But at the same time, you get the feeling that he feels this insufferable need to play a solo on EVERY SINGLE METALLICA SONG and as a result he also plays some of the worst solos in the world.

Seriously, IF THERE'S NO NEED TO PUT A SOLO IN THE SONG, THEN DON'T DO IT. Doesn't mean you can, means you should.

Its still Metal up yer ass 20 years later..

Firstly,
When Metallica threw darts at Winger, they were literally saying, "metal is soon to be on its way up yer ass baby"!!!

Just classic metallica.

And now, they're pretty much getting their due backlash from everyone and everywhere... lol...

Secondly,
To some Kirk Hammet sounds aweful in comparison with other players but people forget he is a band player and has simply chosen to stay the way and in the position he is in. Which is pretty laid-back, but so what? He is not a horrible guitar player, however bad he sounds or whatever things he does that you dislike about him. Consistently contributing the lead solos for whatever Metallica hits that makes your balls come alive for 28 years now.... man, thats definetly, definetly hard to beat. All rest in peace, the soul of Metallica is strong in one whole part than its individual parts.

Whoever said that Metallica is just James and Lars dosent know what they are talking musically. I'm really clueless about this limited impact of Kirk's contribution to the sound of Metallica. I must have been listening to music with only one ear plug. Or maybe I read too many magazines of other musicians overblown, overhyped criticism of whatever that floats the boat in yours truly, Metallica.

And Lastly,
I have nothing to say about Reb Beach.

Guitar playing in rock and roll is more than just technique. sure kirk doesnt deliver great solos, but metallica has produced some great riffs

I beg to differ but there were almost no solos in their St.Anger record.

Haha this is a dang old thread but to be honest I do agree a bit. I don't think Kirk's a shitty guitarist, just not as great as his popularity implies.

Sorry if you may be offended, but I don't consider how good a guitarist is solely by his shred-solos. I watched a video of Kirk having trouble trying to play a riff that James Hetfield had cooked up, and it isn't exactly supposed to be difficult for someone whose hand coordination has to be good. I actually thought Kirk was quite special until I saw that video. So my take is that he's a pretty good soloist, but riffs-wise and outside of shredding, there're a lot of lesser-known but better guitarists.

Anyway, there are quite a lot of guitarists who are better shredders AND better rhythm-players than he is, in my opinion. So is he shit? Nope. But is he way overrated? Yes. And as for this Reb Beach, I think he could have been more professional in his choice of words. He is a professional musician.

I think that video of Kirk having difficulty playing a riff was a teaser video if I had remembered it correctly. Then again, what's the point in comparing which guitarist is better? Isn't music just music ? Both guitarists don't suck. They're each good in their own ways.
