:) REB BEACH: KIRK HAMMETT Is One Of The Worst Guitar Players I've Ever Heard

Hahaha!!! I'm glad someone had the guts to say it out loud!!! Satriani had too much courtesy to do it, so he phrased in diplomatically. But Reb Beach is a killer player too, so there's at least some credibility behind his words... Kudos to him for saying this though!

When asked about the comparisons between his playing and that of METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett, Beach said, "I don't know the guy [Kirk], but I think he's one of the worst guitar players I've ever heard in my life. I've never heard a solo from that guy that was any good. . . This guy is out of tune, and his vibration... what is it? Vibrato. Oh my god. It sounds like a beginner."

He continued, "Back in the '80s, he was always voted best guitar player, and I'm like, 'What?! That guy is terrible.'

"I hate to say that because I might meet him one day.

"What's he play in? MEGADETH? METALLICA? Is he in METALLICA? Oh, then I have no problem doing that because in their biggest video, 'Nothing Else Matters', when they threw darts at a poster of Kip Winger, and then they showed it live — 20,000 people every night laughing at WINGER — I don't mind saying that Kirk Hammett sucks."

Reminds me of

1) Hector Samuel Juan "Tico" Torres vs Lars Ulrich

2) Itchy vs Scratchy

..in the end it makes good entertainment.

If Ris Low could play the guitar or any instrument ( no 'organs' pun )& she declared that Joe Satriani suck, she would draw attention& get flak but

she'll probably end up with some endorsement deal/s.

Haha... very honest. A bit political issue. But Kirk is a band guitarist and hardly can be heard jamming with other guitarist. Reb is another personality, being a hire gun for Dokken, Whitesnake don't you think he is MILE away from Kirk ?? :p

He should shut up if he has nothing good to say.

not a fan of hammett here, but no one likes to hear this dissing among pros, except maybe the jealous and the insecure.
he has no professional courtesy, and i'm surprised that there are pple praising him for it.

My respect for Reb Beach just went down.

P.S: Reb is probably still bitter about kirk winning the awards in the 80s and also the Winger issue like he mentioned.

Kirk's pretty terrible, especially live, no doubt. But earlier on before he got all wah-crazy he was an awesome guitarist. Maybe not deserving of 'best' titles but definitely not the worst in a long run.

p.s I've never heard of this Reb Beach(stupid name btw) so it just shows how much stupider he is. Kirk's "lousy" playing got him to achieve great success.

"What? You'll have to whine louder! I can't hear you over the sound of me playing live in front of a capacity crowd of over a hundred thousand people and making lots of money!"

One of the most underrated dudes annoyed with one of the most overrated :)

For those who haven't heard Reb Beach, here's a lil clip from the 80's/early 90's:

I don't think he's just technically better than Hammett, his playing has far more emotion and control than Hammett ever did. I'd put him in the same league as players like Greg Howe & Richie Kotzen.

If musicmanship is purely measured by how much money u know, than Britney Spears is a far better musician than Pat Metheny. Which incidentally at Metheny did a similar rant about Kenny G ages ago.

Oh while we're talking about sour grapes, I'm sure Reb Beach is such a "stupid name" that he had signature models from Ibanez and now Suhr. ;)

i m fan of metallica in my younger days...been to their concert here too somewhere in 1990s...

honestly i never enjoy their guitar solos....

its more of the songs or the riff..or sometimes Lars 's drums..

Reb do have very nice solos...

Kill em all, Ride the lightning, Master of puppets, justice for all, metallica black album. To date sold 100 million records and he is out of tune? Yeah Kirk is not a great shredder but his tunes ( riffs and solos) is still in my head. How many guitarist can do that?

You need to expand your listening palette... Then again, I guess not many people young enough to remember the 80s would know him. Hahahaha...

Sorry, never was a Whitesnake fan, let alone the whole hair/glam period. Just not into that kind of metal. I'm more of a classic rock/metal(sabbath/purple/zeppelin) and thrash fan. From this guy's wiki page it seems like he was more of a replacement for other guitarists who left.

Damn! He was in Whitesnake??? Hahaha!!! I only knew he was in Winger. I don't know much of his stuff, but his one killer recording, being the 1st track on the now obsolete "Guitars That Rule The World 1" recording "Black Magic" was killer... He was easily one of the better contributions there, and even more surprising was Richie Sambora's contribution! Paul Gilbert and Zakk Wylde's contributions were also killer... They all made the track by Malmsteen on that album look bad... Hahahaha...

That said, judging from that one track, Reb Beach was a killer guitarist.

Whitestrat brutha...

your signature says it all.

It applies aptly here.

Oh ya!!! I didn't even notice! Good point! Hahaha...

Kirk Hammett was never in my books as a guitarist that contributed anything to the music world. The role he played in Metallica could be easily replaced. He didn't craft the sound of the band.

To me, and I think to many others, Metallica IS James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

That said, Metallica was always a vehicle that stood for more than just chugging riffs and solos. They used to have a message. I'm not sure they still do. James Hetfield wanted a band that does what he and Lars wanted. Any self desire to self-explore (ala Jason Newsted) was quickly quashed. But Kirk Hammett to me was never one to attempt to deviate. He always seemed as if he was along for the ride. Comfortable in what he did... And I guess James and Lars were very comfortable with a "yes" man.

Slash, on the other hand, crafted the G'N'R personality along with Axl Rose. Without Slash, there would be no Appetite for Destruction. No November Rain. No Don't Cry and no Sweet Child Of Mine.

You hear lots of people bashing Slash for who he is, how much money he's milking these days, and how overrated he is. But no one can say he was replacable. Especially not in GnR.

Yet Kirk Hammett... erm...

well why should he care? he's the one raking in the money :P

everyone else who bash him about being able to rake in money despite deviating from his "style" are just jealous haha!
