Rant: Ethics of Guitar Stores in Singapore

There's nothing wrong with being opinated. Not having an opinion is like having a body without a soul.

But that being said - there are many ways of expressing opinion without offending others. No doubt the product may be good but praise can be heaped on it without having to put down other products - some may deem it mildy offensive. Its all pretty much subjective because no two people think alike, yes?

Just an observation.

well done.

Hi guys, Ram and I has discussed in private, and I do not wish to let the matter go on.

+1 to what Ized said. There are others means better in promoting ones products without putting down others'.

Thanks.

Update

Hi,

I've corresponded with the starter of this thread, fretless6.

To avoid any further misunderstanding involving other guitar shops, I would like to clarify that he bought a pedal from Blackwood Guitars at Bras Basah Complex.

What happened in his case should not have happened and I take responsibility for it.

I will make a clear notice on our store policy to state that 1 year warranty applies only for new products that we distribute. A 3 month warranty is given 'complimentarily' for used products and a 7 day exchange policy is given for used/clearance items which are at our 50% off corner.

We usually outsource repairs of effects if it can't be fixed by us. Sometimes, it takes a couple of weeks and we'll look at alternative sources for repairs to improve this turnaround time.

I have also briefed my staff on customer service and we'll work towards improving and hopefully, such incidents do not happen again. Please call me DIRECTLY at 6345 2053 if it does. Personally, I believe in focusing on solutions and most issues can be sorted out amicably.

As for fretless6, I've PM-ed him to offer a FULL refund as well as a $20 store credit for the inconvenience caused.

Pretty sure some of you guys who've dealt with me personally will know that I am definitely not uptight when it comes to sales and will definitely reimburse/compensate you if we are in the wrong.

Fretless6, please accept my public apology and hopefully, you will give us a chance to serve you better in the near future.

Thanks.

Regards,

David

P.S. Would also like to take the chance to offer a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been so supportive of Ebenex Music and Blackwood Guitars over the past 3-4 years.

That's the problem. How does one resolve it when you're not the authorised dealer, and the pedal is used except to give a refund?

Kudos to David - see his post above, as always, willing to go out of his way to work things out. I dont give the "go resolve it with the shop" advice most softies are prone to giving unless it can really be resolved with the shop... I don't. See what i mean?

Mockingbird, vaiyen and theunknown:

Thanks for agreeing with me bros. I was in this line and i've learnt that you gotta be really careful with what you say especially if you want to close a potential sale. Its great to be able to sell your product but be careful when you say "this xxx is better than that" cos to the customer who owns it, he may not agree with you. And of course watch that vocabulary. Sometimes ppl get offended....its normal cos at the end of the day, we'r all human.

I don't see whats the deal in not naming shops that you have grievances with. For example, if in this case, the shop was brought up earlier, everything would have been settled faster.

If the problem is with the shop having their business affected, only non-opinionated people would get influenced by a posting on an online forum. Most would still visit the shop if it was an isolated case, which brings me back to my first point, the owner would most gladly settle the problem with you.

Just my 2 cents worth.

kudos to ebenex!

@theunknown: gd point, sometimes being super kiasu really saves the day, albeit ina nice way la!

Ram is cool

I'm glad so many of you stood behind Ram. I have great experiences in his shop right from my first visit. Just like someone said, I feel bad for not purchasing more stuff. If Ram has the stuff I am looking for, I will get from him even if it is more expensive than the Big Shop in BBC (not referring to Blackwood or Rankin). He has objective opinion and has told me that the amp I use is not so great because of personal preferences and wanted me to try the HT5. I could see that he truly believes in his product, which is why he felt the other amps in that category are inferior. I hope Woodworkz will continue to give good service to us.

Well, good on David to actually step in and sort things out.

My question is: Would that still have happened if the OP didn't post this up here in SOFT?

I think that unfortunately, the staff at the store might actually make things more difficult if the OP tried to get a resolution. It might not have gone all the way to David's attention in the first place.

Contact

As previously posted, you guys have my no. - 6345 2053 (which is permanently diverted to my handphone) and email: david@ebenex.com or sales@ebenex.com.

Always feel free to contact me if there are any concerns or grievances with either Ebenex Music or Blackwood Guitars.

I value feedback and am thankful that the OP highlighted this issue, which we will learn from and strive to ensure that it does not happen again.

David

I'd just like to say that the only place I've ever felt like buying guitars from is Blackwood. ALL my guitars have come from there and will always come from there unless they cannot bring in what I want. David is probably in my opinion the most honest businessman I've come across.

As for Ram, I've been to his shop a couple of times and he patiently went through the blackstar amps with me even though I told him that I was only considering it as an option. I brought a friend down once and he got a little heated with Ram over the amp but Ram managed to calm him down and demoed the amp to him. Excellent salesmanship and for that i respect him.

Still settling for off-the-shelves? :)

Thumbs up to ebenex. Always trusted those fellas.
