Question: insert loop -> DI box

I have an AER AG8 amplifier that has no direct out, but has an insert EFX loop. So I'm thinking of tapping that with a DI box.

Anyone forsees anything wrong with doing this:

TRS tip --> DI box input
TRS ring --> DI box para out

Essentially I'll be shorting the tip and ring together by doing this. Anyone spot anything amiss? Don't wanna try it out physically yet cos I don't want to risk anything to my new amp. Also couldn't find any circuit diagrams from AER online, and no user manual either.

Although your method would work, it's easier to just have a single cable, with TRS connector on Insert end, and TS connector on DI end, which would also make the cable wiring obvious for the purpose so you don't mix up the cables.

Tip + Ring (shorted) -> Tip
Sleeve -> Sleeve

There will be no problems. Theoretically the tone/volume could change slightly as the output stage of your preamp now sees a lower impedance input, but the difference might not be obvious enough to be audible.

I am interested to know in your case if there was any change in sound, so do update after you have successfully done so :)

hey dude how are u? just the right guy to respond.. and with a great suggestion at that! many thanks.

the output stage sees a lower impedance -> due to the parallel connection of the return and the DI?
