PRS Cables Announces Guitarbud iPod and iPhone Interface

I think you'd need software for it to work that way because the iPhone itself doesn't have any interface for the guitar signal by itself. I THINK.

PRS Guitarbud™

the guitarist’s interface for the iPhone™ and iPod touch™

You can use the cable with any app that uses a mic and headphones - you can record your guitar and email the recoding from voice memos that comes with the iPhone or use the 4track recorder apps or more (and we have some cool ones in development)!

This is a cable with simple stuff to make it work with iPhone and headphones simultaneously:
Guitarbud - the guitarist’s interface™ Cable Features

Plug your guitar, bass or keyboard directly into iPhone / iPod Touch along with headphones.
Works with Voice Memos™, StompVox™, 4-track™, Guitar Toolkit™, iStrobosoft™, and many others (trademarks are the property of their respective owners).
Guitarbud – the guitarist’s interface, basically replaces your iPhone’s built in mic with the direct output of your guitar. Use your guitar with any app that your mic worked with.

We have apps in the Apple approval process but it works with most that are out there now!

Right now can only be ordered from MF (they sold out but will have more before years end):

By end of January will be available world wide.

maybe we can start a new thread discussing some of the apps available already for the ipod touch/iphone for the guitar. i already have the strostomp app and the planet waves apps for guitar.

I hope the cables are high quality and the capacitance is non-existence. I would HATE to lose tone when playing thru my iPhone! Heh.

I'm interested to see what apps will take advantage of this. I know a recording app with multitrack capabilities would be a most obvious choice... that app exists currently but you have to record thru the iPhone's voice mic. If whoever does such an app to work with this new fangled cable thingy, I hope they also add some sort of drum loop/midi composer capability.

OOPS... looks liek there are programs that record already... so much for not-reading-but-posting-first.

may i ask, why would someone need this? besides recording

if you have your guitar with you, most probably you would have an amp with you. unless you're traveling...

imho, i think the xmini or some microamp would do the job of allowing you to play on the go.

this thing is good coz, its portable, on the go and plenty of music related app for iphone that
enable the guitar player, more choices to, not only play geetar, but to achieve recording, arranging and present music on a new level instead of just simply "playing geetar"

As for amp, actually if you have the guitar simulator application within the iphone, with the cable, you can connect the instrument to iphone, thru the guitar sim app, you have the ability to sculpt your sound and output from the earphone that you connect to the phone

With this the capabilities of what a guitar could do is possibly endless, like i said on a previous comment. Why do you guys own a podx3 or a pocketpod? its the same thing here. we want something cheap yet good for all our recording needs. who knows? maybe famous guitarist will be using this cables while performing.
