professional Setup (guitar)

yea i heard..with the queer chinese dude right..that guy can sing man.. but too bad the chicks dun get any. kelvin has a pretty unique fingerstlye technique... you guys should check him out... quite cool...

hmmz ... noob here ! just wanted to ask ya guys ... on often how regular should ya send in ya guitars for servicing ? quarterly or every half a year ??

When your git don't feel right anymore. Other then that, if you send in a ok git just to do servicing, you might get it back in a action you might not like. Unless you like your git in tip top condition, once 1/2 to 1 yr do once is ok depending on how much you play and care for your git.

Actually I do sprucing up of gits too. Basic touch up of the polish to body and frets and electronics, and return to you your git which looks as good as it should. I charge $40 with a new sets of strings. Can look me up at my studio workshop. my sms 97337161.

well well well. seems like every1 here has sumthing gd to say abt kelvin. but i dont. when i bought graphtech saddles n they couldnt fit i asked him how to fit it in. he said to me 'u so clever u do la' cos he overheard me saying tt i could try to cut a pickguard for my friend out of acrylic. also, my friend sent in his guitar for spraying. kelvin promised tt it would be done in a month. but he took 3 months instead. wat nonsense. n he kept giving lame excuses for taking such a long time.

Hello Penta,

Its unfortunate you have had such an experience, I wish you better luck next time. For every service provider, there'll be people who give it glorious testimonials as well as people who diss it. Regardless of how good the general feeling towards a place might be, there'll be someone, whom from his perspective, experiences unjust treatment. Sometimes the proprietor is at fault and sometimes the customer is not blameless either.

If you look at the Les Paul forums, even the revered Dan Erlwine has gotten his fair share of negative remarks. Anyway, a forum can be a wonderful source of information as much as it can be misleading. A fan club can come in and cheer, or competitors can come in and flame. Therfore some common sense is required and the usual caveat emptor applies.

However, repeat business is the hallmark of good service and reliability. When you look at where most guitar players go for servicing, the choice of where to go becomes a little clearer.

ok... i changed my strings and the irritating buzz came back again..i tried to adjust it myself and it became WORSE...argh.. ... i need to do this myself this time , no more trips to peninsular.... can anyone point me to a site or tell me here... how do i set up my strat?... i want the neck arrow straight. my trem has already been set to flat. but i dunno how to adjust the saddle height i have a feeling its the guitar neck not being straight...
how sial????

Hi, so unfortunate to hear of your problem recurring. But Kelvin do give warranty for his jobs. You should bring to him again to check it out, he should be able to explain to you when gone wrong. It seems kinda fast for you to replace the strings so soon.

Anyway, the saddle is just one point of adjustment, there are others that need to be adjusted when adjusting there.

Touch wood, but could be that you just have a lemon of a guitar. Some guitars cannot be adjusted straight, that's all. An arrow straight neck which plays well without buzz is not often found. Most mid to low costs guitars will have a slightly bowed neck which is ok, as long as it plays well and little or no buzz.

yea.... my guitar is a J-craft or sumthing... i read from luther its " mid scale " neck?... but i dun see/feel any difference from a normal american 57 reissue... besides the neck shape and pickups... as for the strings i tried DR strings and i didnt like it so i changed it back to my fave dean markleys...but the buzz came back on the a,d,g and b strings.... i tried to raise the saddles using the allan key... but the action was off... and etc...etc.... as i was the one who changed the strings and meddled with the settings... like abit my stupidity... so abit hard to explain to kelvin for him to stand by his warrenty right?.... anyway i will go back this weekend one final time.. and i hope... to dear god that the buzzing is gone... meanwhile i will save up for a nice AAA+ flamed maple neck from warmoth , with abalone inlays from warmoth... hope its good stuff...

Ok, wish you good luck on fixing your baby. Warmoth necks are good, All Parts also good. Built to Fender specs. Should be better as its specialized part, not assembly line part.

ok just to clarify. J-craft DOES NOT MEAN mid scale neck. in fact it simply means they are building the fender models independantly now. no need to stick to fender's specs.... of hardware , finish , colours , materials etc.

that would explain the gold hardware and beautiful white/mother of pearl? finish on the guitar. scale length etc is all the same.

went back to guitar connection. Kelvin being the superb guy that he is , spent an hour adjusting and testing and adjusting my action until i was satisfied.

and he did it for free.

(quite touching..he look so tired then keep rubbing his face to stay awake)

anyways , i would seriously recommend this place to anyone.
For mean and irritating people they should go to Dan's enterprise to get their guitars fixed. haHAhaha
