Premier Drums good?

hey guys..

i'm thinking of buying a premier set..its costs around $720 inclusive of hi-hat and ride..

just wondering...is premier a good brand of drums? would you reccomend it? or should i get the peace demolition instead? (i've just been learning for 4 months and i live in a HDB flat so i need to muffle the sound also)

do share your opinions please =) they're very much appreciated thanks!

i have no experience with premier but if u may elaborate on the series of drums maybe we can shed our 0.02 on it...

i'd be good if u could share with us the budget u have.

For home practise, u don't really need much... a normal 6 piece/5 piece set will do...

2nd hand sets (tama stagestar/swingstar or pearl rt/export/forum) are good enough and usually a good condition set would cost around 300 - 450...

U can PM d_h for boxed drumsets that go around 500 brand new... i'd suggest spending more on snares and cymbals... (since this two are most likely to be lug around to gigs)

swee lee sales - get good snares around this time.. pearl signature series, tama starclassic series etc...

if u have a bigger budget for cymbals, go for sabians or zildjians... if not, the alchemy range is good enough..

hope this helps..

:D

hey marcdadrummer,

thanks for your advice..my budget would be probably around 800 or less? i'm not too sure since my dad's paying..but he doesnt wanna spend too much on the set (since they're not too keen on me playing the drums)

i've talked to d_h and he says the peace demolition sets are all sold out..new batch arriving next yr but he's not sure when..so i'm kinda torn since i was hoping to get a set by this yr to practise more =)

anyhow, i've been looking to purchase 2nd hand tama or pearl (not rhythmn traveller) sets but so far i cant find a seller haha..usually the kits are already sold..so..i was thinking of getting the premier one..

thanks myner! i'll pm that guy...what skins should i change to? sorry i'm still unfamiliar with drum stuff..

with a small budget Evans G1 clear skins sound okay. probably set you back around 70 bucks if you change everything except the bass skin.

ah drumheads... well im no expert at tuning but what i did was spend half of a whole day reading the DTB, and the other half of the day tuning...

i have tommy igoe's getting started to drumming dvd which shows part 1, on how to set up the drums, tuning, knowing ur gears and stuff. pm me if u need it...

wee fellow tampinesean...

Premier

hey i had the exact similar question bout premier.
my senior just picked a premier for the school's orchestra..
kinda unhappy with the choice but too bad, he's a senior =D

Oh it was just delivered today, I have'nt seen it
but i'll go back to school, tune it well and try to give a simple review alright!

I'd like to think Premier is good, but they're considered higher-end than Tama and Pearl, so you might be able to get a good (if not better) Tama kit, and some of the lower-end Paiste cymbals for a start, because from experience I'd say Paiste makes the best low-end and high-end cymbals alike. And of all the drumkits I've played, I've always favoured a Tama rockstar kit with a Yamaha maple snare.

I've played on a Premier before. It's a pretty decent kit. I wouldn't mind getting one.

Besides, Matt Helders' signature kit, Arctic Sparkle, is a Premier. =)

hey guys thanks for all your advice..

is premier considered more high end than tama? when i went to swee lee i saw tama sets going for 1k and up..so i thought tama was the more high end brand..

i'll look again and wait for the review from pacifusion =)

can't wait to get my own kit! practising on the telephone directory just doesnt have the same effect...

Depends. Tama has a very wide range from low-end Mahogany shells to high-end maple or birch shells, but is not always about the wood. Also depends which sets Swee Lee brings in.

I practise on either my church drumset, or air =) since I'm unable to afford my own drumset (eyeing some Ibanez guitars).

with tama, u can't go wrong with their starclassic series...

well it doesn't matter much since this is just for practise purposes... and with a budget around 800+, my guess would be the stagestar someone selling for 300 is a very very good deal IMHO..

500, u can get the alchemy set with enough to spare for a snare too!!!

marc...

the 300bucks tama set is rusty..has the owner mentioned..do you think i should still get it? however, i did pm alvin to ask how much his pearl sets are selling for..
