Pots and Caps Help Needed!

Hi friends.

I want to change pots and caps of my Fender HSS Std (w/ S1 switching). But dunno what values of each item to get.

I understand that single coils usually use pots of 250k and caps of 0.22u...but with the Humbucker and the s1, I'm stumped!

Can anyone help?? Thanks!

Suhr has a wiring diagram that details how to make the single coils see a 250k vol and a 0.047uf tone cap while the humbucker sees a 500k tone pot and 0.022uf tone cap.

Google for it... you will need a super switch though.

My personal work-around, since I'm lazy to go figure out how to solder the thing together, is to put the bridge humbucker connected to just a 500k volume pot. The singles will be connected to that volume pot AND a tone control, then I slap on a 0.022 cap - the cap is too small to really roll off treble so what it does is take away that bite/snap of the single coils. Tone at 5 would be an even sound/tone across all pickups, the single sound fatter. Tone at 10, full on, the singles have a lot of bite. Tone at 0, the singles sound more muted but do not lose definition. Can't really pull off jazz though. But thats me - I don't use a tone control for my bridge humbucker, I just need a volume control.

sounds very well thought out...

though i think i would go for a 0.033, just in case. lol

by the way to the threadstarter, maybe if you state the reasons why you wish to change the pots it'll be more helpful.

actually i'm thinking of switching out to get smoother tone and vol sweep. Hoping to retain the current tonal quality (Makes sense =\ ???)

Thanks Shred for your suggestions! but mmm... i actually wld prefer having the option of adjusting tone for the humbucker as well. and also retain the s1 switching option... zzzzz.... sounds complicated....

Anyone know where i can get the wiring diagram plus all these spec for HSS with s1 switch? I tried googling it... not much? Or maybe i'm just searching the wrong keywords.

help please!

Well great, so you wish to retain the tonality of your guitar.
So the solution is pretty simple, just switch out the old pots
for new and better ones, no need to change any values.

...how about 1uf  for tone cap ..

btw ..can go with 250K for a master volume if it's a 5way switchable HSS....more balanced output imo....f'more with a traditional fat strat wiring there is no tone for bridge ....so the 250k pot is just nice.
