Pls help to recommend a digital piano for jazz piano learner

My advice stays the same - don't get a mixer at all. Connect direct. My current setup overseas (where I'm working) is direct without any mixer.

hey.. i have yamaha monitors both still unopened in box. long story. but if u wan a pair of yamaha ms202s or yamaha msp5as give me a buzz.

i get to make space in my room ... u get to save some cash - new monitors for decent deal.

no obligations n of cos do a bit of window shoppin too.. figure out how much ud be willing to spend before u invest in one.

ghn4ever, do consider Jazzfish's offer. If the price is good, it is a good pair of monitor speakers for the general user whose main aim is to play sounds off the keyboard. Remember you are not trying to start a studio.

I've been using the MS202 for more than 10 years before finally selling them off. I was using them for the exact same purpose as you - getting sounds off keyboards. It serves the purpose well.

Back to mixers: I only got my Mackie mixer when I had a number of modules. But after going totally software, my mixer no longer comes into much use except in occasions when I had to record vocals and live instruments. So it is now under-used. Keep your setup simple and minimal - therefore low cost. I would save all that money on getting better keyboards than all the paraphernalia.

As Cheez said, no need for a mixer if you only have one piece of equipment.

I have the tascam VL-X5 - bought it from Luther. I don't have much experience in electronic music gear but I find its a real good piece of equipment, so I don't regret it.

As I only have one keyboard, i plug it directly into the tascam.

Thanks for all your advices. I will do some studies on different brands and models, and also compare their sounds since monitor speakers are not inexpensive and they go by each piece.

An off topic Qn: do most of you here grad from NAFA or Lasalle or Berkeley? are you professional musicians? Unlike me, I am working in the financial industry and only a part time piano learner.

most of us here are part time music learner like yourself too. really. just that we have been learning for a long long time.

still learning.

No, you don't need to have a pair. But that will mean you'll only get mono sound. I will strongly recommend 2 speakers for keyboards if possible. Keyboards sound entirely different on mono and stereo. Don't have to get expensive ones.

Thank you all for the advices. Finally, I bought a pair of Tascam monitor speakers. piano sounds are very clear thru Tascam, the problem is the volume is a bit low. Wondering whether a mixer can increase the volume.

Don't think it will increase the volume - if your monitor speakers are already active speakers. It can't be soft. Don't forget there are 2 volume controls - one on the speakers and the other on your keyboard.

You should be able to go pretty loud. What speakers are those?

did you buy the tascam VL-x5? they go pretty loud. 90W each side. you didn't turn up the volume on each speaker. or you got a bad cable. or u mixed up inputs and oututs (though highly unlikely)

Yes, I bought tascam VL-x5 , no volume controls on both speakers, only on/off buttons. d Volume control on the DP is max. Dont think i mixed up inputs and outputs or got a bad cable cos I followed the instruction from Luther.

dude.

there is a little small black knob below the input that says 'Level Control'.

THAT IS YOUR VOLUME CONTROL.

Thank everyone here.

Jazzfish has helped me to solve the problem. I managed to sell away my RD300sx and bought RD700sx from him.

ha.......

Heh just wanted to double confirm what Ian said - the Tascams are amazingly loud for their size, so you probably forgot to increase the volume of each speaker.

It's black in color and looks like the head of philips screw (i.e. the the opposite of the american, i.e. 'cross' screw head).

hi guys,
