Please list down your favorite standalone distortion pedal

ill have to add the gramps, fetto nord and nord 70s to my list of likes haha. tried them at SA and they're great pedals.. the test like dudelove says is whether it'll cut thru live.

with the new switches and all its more versatile with different rigs but then theres still preference and taste which is extremely subjective...

Anyone has any thoughts on the Tonefreak Severe other than the schemtic showing its a crunch box clone?

Rockbox boiling point?

Know these are boutique gear may not attract much attention here. Just trying my luck. Got on the wait list for a Analogman King of Tone. Yay. 2 year wait begins.

I'm sure it'll cut. I usually play as a lone guitarist, cutting is not a problem. Anyway they have this very nice thing going on in the upper mids I'm sure it'll sit perfectly in a crowded mix. What I'm not sure is how it reacts with my gear and setup.

oh if you're the only guitarist then cutting isnt so hard. another guitar or keyboards complicates things..but yeah the high mid are what i like about the pedal. gives a nice bite to the sound

yup, too many variables in everyone's setup. it'll be horrible if it doesnt work after spending that 400-500..

I've had a few distortion pedals under my wing during my time of experimenting with single pedals. So far, I find that each pedal has it's own distinct flavour and I must say, I've liked all of those that I've tried because of the difference in character that each of it gives. But no matter what pedal you use, we gotta consider that alil bit of tweaking goes a long way. However, I find that only two pedals could give have a good range of distortion and tones that can be produced and will definitely be able to stand alone as a drive pedal between the right amp and the right guitar.

Best for stand alone and versatility:
first - Boss Metal Zone
second - MXR Fullbore Metal
third - EHX metal muff with top boost

Others that I have and had:
Boss DS-1
Boss OS-2
Boss MD-2
Artec CRM
EHX Big Muff Pi
Wampler Plextortion
Fulltone OCD
Digitech Grunge

IMPO.. they're all good!! hAHA!

I am getting my rock box boiling point next week :) will do a review on it.... It sounds really gd on all the demo and on other website is 9.5 so gonna give it a try

Boss METAL ZONE PWNS ALL.

Even better if you stack like 10 in a row for the most BROOTAL wall of distortion ever!

James Hetfield would shit in his pants.

Hey come on tone is truly subjective. As much as some people diss the MT-2 it's still a staple for some bros and softies out there. There's always the love/hate camp out there. Like how some can worship Fulltone stuff and lately they're not even considered boutique anymore. People used to have Fulltone/Zvex/Lovepedal/Keeley on their board, but now whatever comes out latest is the biggest craze. The pedal industry is having traits similar to fashion nowadays.

Everything depends on your needs, requirements, and finally how much you are willing to spend. I for one would never spend above $350 on any gain pedal. Cause I prefer driving a tube amp hard and getting more OOOOMPHHHHH.

Well my standalone distortion pedal (which unfortunately has no place in my board but travels a lot if I feel like bringing one pedal only) is the BYOC Mighty Mouse (modded to Landgraff MO'D specs plus additional Ruetz mod).
