Please list down your favorite standalone distortion pedal

I think the best distortion pedal I've tried is the Himmelstrutz Fetto standard. Need to try it with my rig and in a band mix to get my final conclusions but it sounds absolutely incredible. I can't imagine hitting it with a treble booster. Must be the sex..

Hey dudelove, I did try running my analogman beano(switch on "mid", up position) thru my Fetto Nord and it's something you should try. According to Joakim, the Standard and Nord's drive voicing are very similar. So the Nord is just like a standard with a built in boost.

edgie, I've never tried the Nord, because you bought it! Hahha, the Nord 70 also looks interesting. I'm currently using a Menatone King of the Britains for about a year now and I found it to sound perfect at home, at loud volumes, on in a band, and on stage so nothings gonna make me want to kick it off my board at the moment. I certainly wouldn't sell it to fund a Nord, but if I ever get to afford one I'll compare them closely and see which one deserves a place on my board.

I'm getting a very sexy 2 in 1 boost pedal made by a friend from TGP. It'll have a treble booster in it. Most people say treble boosters run into a driven tube amp is ideal. Say if I'm using a solid state amp, clean, and using my KOTB to emulate a driven tube amp, you think that's workable?

Yes, it would definitely work but make sure you don't use too much gain or it'll generate noise. I also used the Beano with a DLS and the results are very good. Tighter bass than if I were running a fuzz face into the DLS' rock mode. IMO, Treble boosters should always be paired with either a tube amp breaking up or a tube amp simulator pedal. I also tried a KOTB before but it's been so long so I can't remember what kind of marshall is it emulating. A TB should work in any dark-sounding amp-lke pedal just fine.

It emulates a '68 Plexi. Its totally my thing because my ideal distortion tone is VH1. I'm into mid and presence heavy tones with loads of sparkle so I thought a treble booster would be fun. My custom pedal will also have the '73 boost on the other side for that upper mid honk like Jimmy Page. I love his tone but I don't usually admit it even to myself so it'll be a great classic rock 70s pedal that'll sit real pretty off my board. It's gonna be a DAM enclosure sized pedal.

I see now. I remember when I played the KOTB at a friend's house, it was the Heritage LP(best-sounding LP I've tried even if they're just loaded with Duncans) and a Laney 12"(50watts maybe) tube amp. The tones were round and sustain-y just like what LP's ought to be. The only thing that prevented me from looking for the KOTB is that it has so many knobs for a dinosaur like me. haha. Even on my Nord, I don't touch the internal trim pots, I just leave them at stock.

@dudelove: just got an email from Himmelstrutz that Joakim sent 2 fetto nords, 1 fetto nord 70, 1 gramps +, and 1 fetto custom.

Yes, the Riot is a great box. I love it more than my sansamp GT2
It was my most expensive pedal then but I had to sell it.
I needed cash quick and that pedal was easier to sell compared to my other pedals.

You have the EMMA Reezawhateva, I want that pedal but the price is out of my reach.

hahah nope i dont have it but ive tried it and its good stuff (:

At sound alchemy. I don't really know if seekz and sound alchemy is the same. haha. I have posted in a thread about the Gramps+ started by JimmyR the email of Joakim regarding the new switches on the new units. The Nord 70 has a 3-way switch now, while the Nord has some sort of an experimental switch that will only appear on #083, the one Scott at SA now has.

Seekz is the nice guy at Sound Alchemy! Haha. Yeah gotta go down and try at my risk!

It's indeed very risky. There's a big chance you'll be selling some stuff soon. hahaha.

But seriously now, pls feel free to chime in your honest impressions when you try them.

No man its dangerous to sell something that is proven to already work with my rig, then buy something unproven to replace it. Had many nasty experiences by doing that. If I really like the Fetto so much, I'll have to save and buy it, test it with my rig, most importantly in the band mix, then make my decision. I'd like to keep both though. But no point having 2 Marshall sounding pedals imo.

whoa. i'll prolly list down what i've used before
