Players who we need to learn more from -->

Andy Mckee - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4
You can be all showpiece and yet me so musical, emotive and convey expressions and beauty. And little capos and alternate tunings and monster dexterity. Should rightfully be the next CGP. Don't know what a CGP is? Go find out about Mr.Atkins and Mr.Emmanuel

Brian Setzer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4
A low-key legend I had to point out. Jazz sensibilities, 2 string legatos with pinky, cruising chords and just a cool video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnhRNxnTNeM

Nuno Bettencourt - Pyrotechnical wizardry. Alternate picking, speed picking, string skips, tapping and sense of timing is all at play here. Lets you know that country diads can be used in hard rock too. Or is it Hard Funk Metal?

P.S. Is it just me, or is everyone into metal nowadays? (No offence or anything metal fans... I respect music.)

Honestly, I think it's mainly because most of the more technical players today are in metal bands.

One key guitarist I'd like to highlight in today's music who I am desparately trying hard to learn from but severely failing is Mark Tremonti. Nevermind his big power chords and alternate tunings in Creed. Go listen to Alterbridge. His CLEAN tone melodies in his chordal rhythms is most inspiring. For someone who says he learnt from MAB, I'm happy to day he has his own style of composition. His intro for "Broken Wings" was a killer. Even the latest "Blackbird" was inspiring. He and John Mayer to me are some of the more complete musicians today. Able to do both good compositions and lay a nice solo.

Mayer's phrasing and excellent note timings are killer. His live solos (mainly improv) on Belief, Gravity, Slow Dancing In A Bruning Room are nothing short of straight-to-the-heart knives. Mayer is the new Clapton to me.

Tremonti is mostly lauded a a nu-metal (read: talentless) shredder wannabe. His improv solos on youtube are nothing impressive. But give him time to think and compose, and he'll give you some of the nicest leads heard today. Clean, concise, melodic and rhythmic. For a simple but highly effective chugging rhythm, check out: Come To Life. Awesome riffs and a nice accompanying solo. One of the better acts to watch these days. He's going to be around for a long time... (whatever happened to Wes Borland?)

Thank God for these 2 who make today's mainstream music very listenable...

Gary Moore - alot of emotion in his playing, has a neck breaking vibrato and goooooood phrasing his song still got the blues, an instant classic, emotional!! for those who dont know, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O_YMLDvvnw watch and weep ( in a good way )

BB king - his vibrato is also totally outta this world, his phrasing for blues is totally smooth and nice. the thrill is gone is a superb song to see his playing at full potential. here he plays with gary moore

I havent seen these players yet..

Zakk Wyldde
Eric Johnson
Kirk Hammett

these 3 have something in common. guess what it is..(quite easy actually)

and for now, im so into Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu's playing style. their thrash style galloping and twin guitar leads are out of this world man..check out their new album shogun if ya wanna know what i mean..

john scofield. i learnt alot from seeing him play. pity i did not have money to go see him live. ask subversion and he'll tell u how good he is.

Nuno and Kotzen!

String skips kings, rhythm masters, and shredheroes!
I know I would be the only one that says it, but i prefer Kotzen's version of Green Tinted 60's Mind vs Gilbert's..... and I love any country player. or Tele player. Just the most honest thing you can do, pick on a tele...
And Nuno is just a complete guitar player, learn the way he taps, classical leanings, funk playing and rhythm picking, his groove songwriting, acrobatical picking and his outright balls out playing, on a marshall stack or on a 12 string.

And both just funk my world. Learn from them!
