Eg if you have HH config and you wanna use a 5 way switch, you need a 5 way megaswitch like the ones built by Ibanez, Yamaha, Ernie Ball, etc (they are more expensive than the regular 5 way switches) and not the regular ones that you can get from the shops for like $15.

That's a negative. You can browse through Ibanez's web for wiring schematics of various guitars with HH, and you will find some do use 8 pole 5 way switch for the switching configuration that you mentioned. Example below.

Actually, you need to get a 24 pole megaswitch to emulate the Ibanez H-H wiring for a 5-way switch.

Ibanez's 8 pole switches are specially made so they can do that H-H wiring.

If you get another 8 pole switch, you can't emulate it.

Hmm, that's new to me. Thanks. Does this switch have any code/model?

Hmmm... its got the word Cortex on it, however, I have sent my Ibanez (H-H) to Davis to do wiring and Joe (who does a good job) spent like 5 switches (2 cortex, 3 Gotoh) to try to wire and it didn't work, he couldn't get the neck position to work properly or something.
Yes, he gave me those 5 used switches and didn't charge me for them.

If you go to Ibanezrules.com you can see the switch code i think.

Let me be the first person to correct myself. Apparently EMG 89 is not really coil splittable afterall, it's two pickups in one housing. And now I'm not so sure about using a 5 way to coil split with these either.

I used to have EMG89s
there is 2 hot wire, one for single coil and one for double coil sound
so just wire them to each lug of your switch and thats it.

Bottom line is - all pups work with all switches...but you need the right switch and need to take care that you have 4 wire pickups to get most out of the wiring config. If you have 2wire pickups, you can only get standard config, no coiltapping. :)

nt really, if you know how to do it, you can change a 2 wire pickup into a 4 wire pickup, not impossible, just not probable

jeremyrozario bro - i myself have had success modding 2 wire to 4 wire pups, itz fun, wat can i say.but all im saying is tat on stock 2 wire pups, one's options are more limited.

Also, you can get a single coil sound by splitting hums, it may not be like a true strat-sounding s/coil but it will be close depending on the output of the humbucker that's being split.

alamsemu bro - I have had experience trying to wire a HH guitar with 4 wire pups using a regular cheapie 5-way switch purchased from a regular guitar shop.Because of the way it's constructed, you WILL NOT get Ibz's kind of switching pattern like the one's seen on their website coz Ibz switches are custom made for that config.Try it if you want...it will be fun i guarantee you.

Only switches like Stewmac's, Yamaha's, etc megaswitches will enable you to custom wire any config you want out of 2 hums...been there, done that

the stew mac will do the switching, but do check the size. Ibanez is very ... conservative with their cavity size.

uh yeah...try installing the EMG AB in a RG....fun, fun, fun

and uh yeah...been there, done that too

Tried an S cavity before?

That is so NOT fun!

self promo : )

And for those who are running EMG actives
and want the " out of phase " sound

I still have a EMG PI-2
this unit will electronically flip the phase of a pickup connected to it
thus giving you the " out of phase " sound otherwise not possible
with EMG active pickups.

First $50 offer gets it : )

Yeah man...
That would be a better idea... I guess back then, the price was probably higher.

I have a link to some cheaper prices, but I'm not sure how they compete against Davis, so if you want that website I have, just pm me.
