Personal Amp rejected for gig

woah, so serious ah, dont allow own amp, they are imbecile already. Cant imagine if they say show cancelled...

hehe, anyway, maybe its a blessing in disguise that they use the rented amp. At least when the sound suck donkey ballz, can blame it on that. Imagine its the other way round, toob amp and crappy sound guy, sound balance in general, the toob amp gonna lookie bad..

Heh. I do play for my school sometimes, in school to other schoolmates. It's a regular thing so they keep their own amps. It's a Smarvo 75W solid state. Bloody joke, and they don't allow use to bring our own amps/straight into PA etc. So we're stuck with Smarvos and NO soundman. Cheers.

i would say that the boutique amp is a curse.

Pretty much this man.... lesson learned not to overlook those 10-15W Marshall/ Rage/ Smarvo amp! They only not bring the True Tone but also good charm!!

Tell you what bro, my kid will have her 3rd birthday in a few months time... hit me up on PM, I will definitely hire you... consider this as your mega gig... a lot of 2-7 yrd old kids will see you rock out and cheer for you... you can play Happy Birthday song right in a rock beat? You don't mind playing a gig on lunch time right?

kiddin.
:p

My school did that. I wanted to bring my amp down cos I use a 50W tube, and those imbeciles rented a bloody solid state for the thing... and in the end they said I couldn't cos they paid for the other amp and that it'll be wasted if I brought my own...

Thats why be like me. Cant be bothered to play for school events.

Actually, what's the issue with solid state amps ah? Some of those solid state commonly seen at local gigs, those crate la, peavey la, actually not that bad leh. In fact I think smarvos are not bad for the price!

Well i can understand where the thread starter is coming from, after all he did pay a hell load of money to buy the boogie triple rect and it is natural for him to wanna use for gigs. I have to say just chill bro, i know it is upsetting that u can't showcase ur great gear but i guess there r always bad days and this was one of them so dun bother to much on it. Well my advice to u is to just check in advance first before u lug ur amp down and be rejected last minute, and always have a plan B like having a proper effects board to get the best that u can from a solid state/any supplied amp running clean (fyi solid state amps do sound gd clean). Cheers!

If they reject your amp request, I doubt they will even let a sound man that's not part of their team come along and touch the equipment. Since you're bringing even ur own mic n such, they really shouldn't have any reason to reject man.

that's why bring your sound man, and mixer and PA system everything. $20 is for the venue. u want extra half hr pay $40 lor.

That's 1 reason why I want to get good pedals instead of amp heads. Last time I post about some pedals then ppl say why the best distortion is from the amphead. But u see what's the use of having good distortion from amp when I can't use the amp lol. That's why I feel is better to get good distortion pedals

Here are the summarised reasons stated:

1. Time wasted and delay when sound crew has to redo the settings etc
2. People will start commenting on our band why do we have extra special service for using own amp
3. Afraid that there will be many problems caused when using my amp.(eg amp blow, fuse blow)
4. Influence/encourage other bands to bring down their personal equipments to the gig in the future.

This is a set of lamebrained excuses. Sounds like the guys weren't really thinking this through when they stopped you.

I would have thought it would have been more for insurances purposes. Fire/Personal damage, etc etc... Not sure if that's an actual issue, but that at least does make sense for me.

Anyway, the leader was a joke to me. Since 2 bandmates (they're in the same band in another band, 1 guitarist and 1 drummer) kind of dislike me and pinpointed my tone was overpowering in the jam. I just boost the mids and cut through the mix since I really dislike scooping my mids. But on the other hand my guitarist love to scoop mids and have 0 on the tone knob sound. It sounds kinda bad individually but still passable. In the jam, it's totally overwhelm by the rest of the instruments no matter how loud he set.

Thats why 2 of those gay fags complaint to each other and decided my tone was the one causing the overpowering. In the end, they made a conclusion themselves and said I was very individualistic, dominant, overpowering etc etc. Leader was peer pressured by 2 of them. In the end, 4 of them against me.(Organiser is with 2 of those fags I mention) (bassist was new to the band so has no comments) Btw, the drummer was JUST a sessionist and he's the one making the biggest decision and complaints about me. No complaints about my playing though and I thought it's usually the playing that gets the player kicked. Anyway, I don really care about them anymore cos they just a bunch of noobs to me trying to act pro.

Regarding the sound with amp or pedals, I tried many drive pedals and tried to achieve the chugga chugga tone. None of them can match up with a real nice and good tube amp drive. You have to try it yourself and know how well it sounds. I used to listen to all those pedals demo and stuff but they are all nonsense to me now.(You are comparing tubes with resistors) You nv know they tweak the EQ etc in their own space and just post it up and says it's nice etc. So I just bought a mesa to save all those troubles and Im impressed by it.

My set up was like 3 drives, compressor, boost, wah, whammy, phase, modulation , delay, reverb which fill the pedalboard to the max and the pedals keep changing all the time due to GAS. Now my set up is Guitar > od808 > noise gate > Amp, Im totally satisfied with it. Maybe I will get a boutique multi effect like TC eletronic stuff in the future. TONES IS IN THE FINGERS. hahah

wah... intially I was inclined towards your side. After you mentioned you r kicked out becos of this issue, I am still on ur side though the scenario is almost comical. now you r making it sound like this whole thing is some conspiracy to the extend the organisers r kinda in cahoots with 2 of ur bandmates against u, i dunno wad to think man, lol...

Maybe you should consider having some kinda backup setup in case of similar scenario la, unless u totally against gigging without ur amp.

lol. it really sounds funny but it's true. The organiser + 2 of the bandmates are from the same clique. They hang out together etc etc. 1st of all I complaint to the organiser. He will definitely tell my bandmates about me and then start discussing shit about me and stuff. Eventually dragged band leader in and kick me out. Im not pissed with kicking me out but the attitude of those members and organiser.

I will invest in a multi effects for this type of retarded gig or I don even play for it at all.

hmmm, one thing iam kinda curious, when you guys jamming, can hear each other instrument?

oh, anyway, just saw a mistake in the post few posting above, it should be tube and transistor, instead of resistor.

oh yea speaking of jamming, boogified, since u mentioned ur setup nw is Guitar > od808 > noise gate > Amp, means u bring ur amp head to jamming everytime? that's like fierce man, unless u drive or something.

PatheinRainDropOnMoe> I can hear everyone clearly except for the other guitarist. =) Opps sorry about that. You are right.

Lemoned_z > Haha. Nono. I don bring my amp for jamming. I will bring if i drive but I don have a license. I use the distortion from the amp =) Free and easy with guitar around.

guess for future jamming in new band, a gadget like the zoom h4n or similar product be useful. Can record the jamming session and listen back, whether any instrument dropping out or overpowering each other. Heh, with that, prolly can cut down on misunderstanding and working on new ideas hearing all instrument in jamming setting.

yeah that's a good idea. but I doubt anyone will be so hardworking and bring over to record . takes a while to find a good spot and set up as well . most probably ppl will just use their ears.
