Personal Amp rejected for gig

Yeah what kind of guitarist doesn't have ANY mids in his EQ? If he doesn't know that you need mids to cut through the mix maybe he's the one that needs to be fired. My sound is like Kerry King, only mids.

but I doubt anyone will be so hardworking and bring over to record . takes a while to find a good spot and set up as well . most probably ppl will just use their ears.

hehe, we give our ears too much credit already. A hand held recorder is a set up and go thingy. It aint difficult at all, just a matter of want or not. Afterall if hearing is good enough, then theres prolly no issue of other geetarers complaning cant hear themself liao. Oh, at the same time, can screw back those geetarers who really have no idea of sound in general by telling them, see, in a band jamming setting, your geetar sound like da pian, you play like da pian and all we can hear, is your da pian!! Hahaha

Agree. Some of these wannabes don't understand guitars are mid-range and treble sounding instrument. And some claim they scooped the mids because they want heavier low-end chugs? Well, isn't that the job of the bassist? Nuts.

it's not something people can understand quickly. takes awhile. and i'm afraid most of them would probably have given up before they even realised.

i haven't mastered the art of making my instrument sound good in a mix yet. but i'm thankful that at least when i sound like shit, i know why i sound like shit.

From simple observation, guitarists who scooped their mids usually don't cut through the mix because (i) their highs are blended with the sound of the cymbals or snare drums, (ii) their lows are drowned out by the sound of the bass or the bass drums. Of course there are other factors, but I believe these are the main ones.

We must understand gigging and performing is something we have to work with PEOPLE. its a PEOPLE thing, and if its a people thing it spells conflict/backstab/ trouble. almost like working life where there has to be lots of give and take, and even sucking thumb at times. at the end of the day, if you are not happy, then gigging isnt really your thing..
and it doesnt help when so many small things come and piss you off to make the entire experience very unhappy. i totally feel you with the amp.
by overpowering, maybe the playing plays a part, not just the mids.

thats my 2 cents i am only a student.

@Likui: No la bro, that one wrong mindset.. If one's that much of a tone freak to want his distortion to come from a tube amp (and an expensive one) he jolly better be good enough to play for better gigs that don't give these kinda cheap and crappy service. And assuming one who does this is good, and he gets this kinda service, logical advice is to move on because the gig is not worth his time.

@Boogified: You've got a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, you know your stuff, you're good at your craft and you're serious about it. Don't compromise on a multi effects unit that may give the same tone but an inferior feel / dynamics. Your market value is higher than what these gigs are offering.

@guitarsan: Yup, can't agree more. Scooping is not a bad thing. It's a means to achieve something, which is to blend in the mix to allow something else to cut through, like vocals or the lead guitar's solo. Scooping and boosting mids etc affects tone, but we shouldn't be too quick to judge a scooped EQ as a bad EQ because when put in context, it might be the right thing to do for certain parts of the song.
